Default M4P-MP3 Converters?

Does anybody know any good free (or has like a trial version or something) M4P-MP3 converters? I'd been looking through a bunch, but they either don't work at all or screw up the mp3 dramatically (skipping parts and such, or having no sound whatsoever). I buy loads of **** off of iTunes, just for the organization since I'm lazy, and now, I need to convert some of the songs to MP3s to step (lol), mostly MOSAIC.WAV songs.

I've tried things like Protected Music Converter. There are plenty more, but I tried them out quite a few months ago, so I can't recall what they are.

If you're trying to convert stuff from itunes, I'm pretty sure a program like that is illegal.

I've read something somewhere that showed some methods are legal, while others aren't. I forget where it was stated though :\

It wouldn't convert protected files even if it did.

Get some software that lets you burn cds to imaginary drives then rip the "cds".

Like a free version of alcohol 120% or something.

Like NoteBurner. But it's $34.95

Why would you want to re-compress something that's already compressed... It'll sound like ****.

If you're worried about music quality why would you buy from iTunes in the first place?

Also, in my experience it doesn't reduce the quality further than the m4p by this technique. It may but I don't notice it.

It does. Bitrate is huge and switching between two compressed formats, or even the same compressed format, even if you boost the bitrate UP, will lose quality. You may not notice it, but people like me do, even amongst bitrates. I had a 128kbps version of Ryu's AGEHA a while ago, and I recently found a 320kbps version. I didn't even recognize that they were the same song.

I'm not really worried about music quality. If it's terrible quality, then of course, I wouldn't want it, but I don't mind quality that is a tad worse. Like I stated, I bought it for the organization :\

I don't even know what bitrate m4p is... 128 kbps?

I mean, I notice the difference between 128 and 196 in mp3s, the tinny-ness hurts me.

Either way, this (among many other reasons) is why I hate iTunes...

iTunes AAC/m4p files are coded at 128kbps, but that codec supposedly has a quality at that bitrate equivalent to a 160kbps mp3 file.

If you really need to remove DRM from your m4p files, the easiest way with minimal cost and not doing anything particularly illegal is to burn those files as cda files to a CD-RW, rip the CD in the mp3 format, and erase the disc and burn another set of songs. If I come across a digital recoder, I'll let you know.
