    Re: Super Smash Brothers Brawl

I don't limit myself to one aspect of a game, or one game, or even one genre. I have played Halo, but I wasn't specifically talking about Halo in that sense. I've never played Halo online because, well, I don't have an Xbox or a 360.

You clearly are the type of person who buys games for their multiplayer capabilities. I buy games for their single player capabilities. All of my friends went to different colleges and we're all too busy to play games all day, so when I buy games, it's to entertain myself in my free time. I don't have time for guilds, clans, etc.

It's not that I have a problem with people who enjoy multiplayer games. I just prefer to play alone. When you pressure me telling me I have zero skills because I haven't played against someone else, it is very insulting. How do you know what kind of skills I have or don't have? You've never seen me play. I don't post videos of myself on YouTube trying to show off, so you couldn't see it there either. Our very concept of skill is completely different, obviously. You consider skill to be holding your own against other players. I consider skill to be beating Very Hard on one stock with no continues, or beating Adventure without taking any damage in any match. But that's just me.

ps - final fantasy is a horrible, horrible franchise.

I typed up a huge counter-argument, but I deleted it because hay, you're not going to read it.

You don't have to participate in a gaming tournament to be good at the game you are playing. In fact, probably a lot of players playing in a gaming tournament aren't extremely good at the game.

You really deserve a ban, but then again, we started this. =[

We've discussed this before and put it to rest. I specifically don't go to tournaments because:

        1) Tournaments for video games are incredibly lame. It's a contest of who has the best hand-eye coordination and who's played the game the longest. It's not a real competition and the fact that companies pay money to have kids compete is ludicrous. Are there contests for who has the highest levels in MMOs? No, because the person with the highest level is usually just the person who invested the most time in the game. Does that make him/her better than anyone else? No. It just means that he/she played more than anyone else.

        2) You have those retarded rules and never back down from them. It's just insane. You won't even play with Mr. Saturns? Seriously? They don't explode. They don't bother you at all. In fact, leave them alone long enough and they'll just walk off the stage.

I like items because it gives me a chance at using feints. Ever heard of them? Strategic fighting and all? Pretty much the entire basis of playing Gears of War? Can't just run in and blast everything with your assault rifle. You need strategy.

I hate wavedashing because it's a physics exploit and because requiring you to exploit the game and essentially mash pointless button combinations is beyond retarded. More retarded than the concept of a video game tournament to begin with.

Look, what do you want me to do? Want me to waste gas money and a solid weekend that could be spent playing (gasp) *different games* to drive to a meaningless sausage-fest so I can show off to all the other nerds that I have mad skillz? That's really the extent of my capabilities here. I have a job and I am in college. I have enough of a lack of time that I barely get to play any video game, let alone an organized meet-up of nerds who can't get over playing the same game over and over again.

Therefore, the only way I can tell you my skill level in this game is to say "I have all 290 trophies." That's it. I guess I could say I've never lost a match against another person, but that is irrelevant because "LOL THEY AREN'T MLG CERTIFIED U NOOB!!".

Ohmygod, Squeek, I am finally in agreement with you. This is all that is need to be said. I can't believe argueing this is possible. Tournaments are no way whatsoever a good way of determining anything, especially considering the ****** ass rules. No items? lmao. If you can't handle items, don't play the game. You do know it's in the game for a particular reason, it makes it harder. If you laying smackdown on a guy and a bomb appears beside him and wipes you out with it, too bad so sad my friend. The thing the nerds and their rules have to do is keep sticking to their lan parties and stay away from people who have actual SSBM skills.

l2awr, none of the arguing you do changes the fact that you jumped into an internet thread brandishing a classic dick move in randomly claiming to be better than other people at a video game to people that couldn't care less how good you are and how relatively better you are than anyone. that makes you the biggest fail of them all.

Why does everyone seem to hold a hatred towards all the gamers in the tournaments? I've heard that some of them actually enjoy playing games and the competition for them makes the games more fun. Earning a little bit of money from winning seems to be a plus for them.

It's people like this that give them a bad reputation.

Your either good at the game or you are not man. The end. Your too simple. You think the only thing to competition in these games is skill? I will just use super smash brothers as an example. Heres the difference between you and a pro(who you think seems to suck at the game). A pro can do all of the technical stuff in the game. L cancel, wave dash, wave landing, dash dancing and many many more. You...I'm guessing you cant do a single thing except jump and press R or L to dodge...A pro can throw you off guard with mind games and use his experience to predict the opponents mind games. You can not. A pro knows how a player will come up from the side so that he can edge guard him. A pro knows how to use mind games to get back to the stage. You cant do either I'm sure. Theres many many more things that make you a noob compared to a pro.

I never said I'm a pro, but I'm not a noob. I'm not even top in the state, but I do play with some of the best players in GA. I don't care how long you play. You will never get good playing by yourself or with people who are not good at the game.

World records on single player. Now I think thats skill. Playing it with perfection. But thats a different skill from competition. I'm sure you don't hold any world records though, so that doesn't apply to you.

A noob aka NOT GOOD AT THE GAME - http://youtube.com/watch?v=ynB2dnWd7IU

              A pro - http://youtube.com/watch?v=hfk2vgePkZs

Thinking that they even compare is just stupid. Your so damn ignorant

Also you saying you think its sad for companies to be paying these skilled players. These people spend more time working on their game than you do with school and work together. I think they deserve a chance to WIN AN AWARD for their hard work. Its not even given to them. They have to compete against extremely talented players which makes it even harder to win the award. Your a sad case man. Maybe your job shouldn't pay you for the work you put in.

As far as we know, you don't apply in any of the categories as of yet.

LMAO, Hard work in video games?

OH MY GOD. Shoot yourself. There is no such thing as hard working gamers, lmao. Please take a trip BACK to reality. Holding LAN's and tournaments are the big companies way of enjoying their game from another point of view.

Again, you've seen me play how many times?

Point out the line where I wrote "I am unable to wavedash / l-cancel / short-hop / whatever you want to call whatever it is you do".

I have no interest in trying to get better at the game. I already told you. I beat it. It's over. It will never see the disc tray of my Gamecube or Wii ever again. It will sit on a shelf and gather dust for the rest of its life. That's the difference between us. I will play a game over and over again to get a 100% completion, but that will be the end of a game for me.

This thread is about Brawl. Not Melee.

                              my opinion on this is

items are good... a TRUE super smash player can play with or without items...
tournaments: on MMOs they are completely stupid... to be good you have to play 24 hours straight? however on super smash i like tournaments because you can be a pro gamer with just 5 minutes of playing. how? the controls are simple.

also if someone doesn't wavedash or waveland or whatever doesn't make them less than a pro... i was at a local tournament 2 years ago and the girl that won the tournament never used wavedash, but still she won the competition. when some of my friends asked why she never used wavedash she replied "using it is not on my winning strategy as you can see"
squeek i've done all those things you did and i still get beat by other players (non-wavedashers by the way) however automatically when someone obtains the 100% of the game you ( I2awr) have to admit that this person has skills and it has even more skills if it did this without wavedash.
and last but not least...people who play without items but want to use the super powers in brawl.... what are you gonna do?

This post goes for everybody who was arguing about tournaments:

I could swear that this thread was about SSB Brawl, not tournaments. I say if you want to argue about that, then make a new thread called "tournaments".

Sorry for the late post, I was at school.
