most people don't think about this hypothetical situation because it's pretty much, in every circumstance, a situation that no one would ever be in

Let's assume this was a random fit of rage that resulted in accidental death. If a rational person was capable of that up to this point, their rage would quickly turn to horror at the thought that they just killed a family member. I would imagine they would then call 911 to do what they could to help.

That's assuming a rational person is capable of getting to that point without any mind-altering substances.
