    Re: World of Warcraft

I'll resubscribe for Legion some time in August.

I get bored of the expansions pretty quickly because once you have all the LFR tier gear you can basically do every single player objective easily, and the only real purpose to getting regular raid gear is to do heroic is to do mythic and I'm really not interested in putting the time and effort into finding a group and meeting the time commitments on top of my non-trivial number of other time commitments.

I did my stint of progression raiding in Wrath in our server's #2 guild and 20 scheduled hours a week was not something I really want to repeat.

    tl;dr filthy casual is casual

Cata was bad, i agree. That's when I sold my account, and i terribly regret it now, because I had like 99% of everything possible up to Wrath, and end game Cata. Now I have nothing... And it sucks, but...

      LEGION

So there's that to look forward to. And MoP was not bad. The reason people thought it was bad was due to the fact well... Pandas. Guess what, though? They are in the lore, from Warcraft (III irc). Raids were not terrible, whooping Garrosh into running was fun, and Vol'jin as WC?! Fuck yes. Now we are about to kick the Legions ass... Get some!

I'm enjoying wow, specifically tanking, because I can do it casually after a long day at school. warriormag enjoys it because he's been in a progression raid guild for a while and he running the highest shit on mythic.

if you dont have a reason to enjoy something, dont force yourself to enjoy that thing
Lol ur crazy, I literally played WoW hardcore religiously from Vanilla until the end of Wrath of the Lich King, arenas, raiding, bgs...

Probably going back to it soon after a couple month break. Been playing WoW too long plus with the new xpack around the corner, its getting me excited again. Plus early access to DH sounds like its gonna be fun.

from an objective standpoint, "killed" means that the game would not be up and running anymore

I don't think they killed it, they made it more "accessible" and there are still thousands, probably tens of thousands, of people who play it for progression raiding or competitive pvp. if you think catering to casual players whilst still making the cutting edge raids super difficult "killed the game," then that's just like, your opinion man

you played wow hardcore religiously from vanilla to wotlk and then they changed things and now you don't play anymore

there are people who played religiously from vanilla to now
there are people who never played vanilla and are hardcore raiders now

I guess another thing to add would be roleplaying, even though that's a very small subset of players there are still massive amounts of people on moon guard, emerald dream, argent dawn, and wrymrest accord who are casual/hardcore roleplayers

if a game is dead for you then why bother trying to breath life back into it? go play on whatever server izzy plays on

It was at this point that Blizzard mysteriously decided to stop reporting subscriber numbers; who could possibly guess why?

I wonder if all this renewed interest in Legion is going to have the same effect as WoD: massive spike of people regaining interest, coming back, realizing it isn't the same game, and leaving again.
Note I'm not saying WoW has become a bad game, but it is definitely VERY different than it used to be.

It's very very different. I understand the focus on end game, but I know people who literally afk flex raids and play other games, they just auto attack.

Appealing to casuals is cool, but to me I quit because its just not the same game anymore. People have like 100k gold, its weird, I remember back in vanilla in like 05, my irl friend bought 100 gold and we thought he was rich af, we made a pimpin guild and we thought we were so cool, he bought a bunch of garbage level 16 blues like searing blade l0l

Nowadays you create an account, get insta invited to a guild with like 3000 members. I literally joined a guild just so i could have the perks and disabled guild chat. Games just weird to me now, it's too different.

EDIT: Also, I did try it again, I bought mists of pandaria for like 4.99 when it was on sale and it came with a month. My favorite part of the leveling experience was levels 40-52 - someone gave me 5000 gold randomly and I bought all the xp scaling armor so I had like 20% bonus XP. What we would do is, queue up for random dungeon finder, and it would spawn you every single time in the same dungeon, was like blackrock depths or something. You'd use the mole teleporter at the spawn, teleport to the end, jump down a ledge and kill the last boss, get like 15k RDF bonus xp (took like 3 mins per run), then just re queue... I think it legit took me like 40 minutes to hit 52.

I suppose that was pretty fun.

EDIT2: Lol man I could post a 50 page essay on things that were better in old WoW. I played classic private servers WOTLK, BC, Vanilla etc basically most of the time Cata was out and MoP was out - shoutout to Burning WoW (RIP), Magic WoW (RIP - top 5 mages on server in arena), Nolstarious WoW.

I also read roleplaying, roleplaying was so much better back in the day lol, nowadays its dumb. Back in the day on RP servers we would take over towers and castles n shit in random zones, and have huge battles horde vs alliance, people RP'd all over the map. Am I wrong when I say people just sit in goldshire or redridge or w/e nowadays on RP servers?

                      it's the nostalgia effect
i honestly don't care too much, i enjoy my time spent playing nowadays and with a new xpac that's making massive changes to classes i'm excited to main tank stuff for this small guild I'm in

you're not wrong to say that but that's also not roleplaying imo. there are loads of people in the cities who do tavern roleplay but I've also been a part of guilds recently that have ran massive, lore-based scenarios where we'd do quests together, or do IC dungeons/raids.
spontaneous quest RP still happens quite a bit in my experience, I'll be questing in some area and I'd just pop IC at a quest hub and get something like "you're headed that way as well? shall we band together for the time being?" but I've always been a fan of roleplay so I've seeked out guilds that actually do large events like this. honestly I'd say I've done more guild applications for hardcore roleplaying guilds than I have for hardcore pve guilds lmao

I agree that some changes are maybe not for the best but some things I love. Probably the single thing that killed it the most for me was cross realm LFG. The thing with that is that there's zero accountability for anyone so you can just do whatever the fuck you want without consequence. I quit after first season of BC and I missed all of WotLK but came back in cata to find a shitfest of ninjas in LFR saying they'll trade the item they just ninjad for something they need. I didn't even extend my subscription for cata after the first month and came back again late pandaria.

One other thing I miss is the sense of danger. You used to be able to pull only one mob in vanilla (maybe two if you knew what you were doing) and you'd get wrecked if you bumped into something else during the fight (freaking murlocs man). Now you can just zerg through everything up until raiding, which I guess makes sense from an accessibility pov but it does take away the experience imo.

Also, wardrobe makes me regret not running old naxx even more during vanilla/BC. Corrupted Ashbringer or Misplaced Servo Arm

protip: if you got old pre-cata shirts, those sell for a ton now and probably more in legion cause they'll be BoE shirts that you can add to your wardrobe and there are only so many of those before they're all gone. I have 9 of the old shirts now (with 3 doubles so 12 total) and I see them going for 30k up to 100k if not more on some other servers. I expect the prices will only rise in Legion with the wardrobe and limited supply since many players threw them away or deleted their old low level alts.

You can easily buy a heroic archi carry or two if you got one of those shirts.

If you plan on selling the shirts, be sure to unequip them before legion hits cause if you have them equipped during the update, they'll automatically be bound to you.

but it's kinda crazy that you don't understand why blizzard would streamline the leveling system

back when you were playing, you had level 80 max. come august, we'll be at 110

not streamlining the leveling process would be a huge turn off for new players lol

I've been playing on a vanilla private server lately. Made a warrior, biggest mistake cuz leveling is boring af, but it's so worth it at 60. Give Kronos a try if you've been thinking about getting back into WoW, but don't wanna give money to see if you'd like it. You really end up appreciating how much faster it is to level in retail.
