No decent substitution in English. It sounds dehumanizing and attempts to create new pronouns don't usually catch on so people who don't fit under he or she in terms of gender are stuck using plural ones that don't always work grammatically.

No idea Renard considered themself (?) asexual so my chirping of plural usage wasn't to demean him, only that it makes for difficult reading just so everyone knows lol. So they're like Ditto or something in pokemon! Hard to assign pronouns to that :/

I'm just not explaining myself and making remarks and shit cuz tired but I'll take a minute or two: so Yoshl said "not out of disrespect", see, nobody calls Renard "he" to be disrespectful, he has a complex over his gender, I'm not laughing about it or anything, I'm just gonna call him "he" because "he" is the pronoun I use to refer to any male (yes, no matter how complexed he is, he's born a male). Now the thing is, (I'll use a silly example to show you my point) if I had a superiority complex and I would feel uncomfortable being refered to as anything other than "master", would you call me master to make me feel good ? So yeah basically I don't mean any disrespect to him, but he can take it as disrespect if he wants to, that's not my problem you know.

The sex a person is born with and the gender they identify with are not necessarily the same thing. Using generic he/she pronouns is currently common. However, If someone wants to be referred to by "they" or "ze" or anything else then I really don't think it's that difficult to oblige. Do what you think people will appreciate. That's different from calling someone "master" or some other unearned authoritative title.

Like I totally wouldn't mind calling him Renard everytime or John or Sarah you know, any name. That's why I say it really shouldn't be taken as offensive.

It's understandable that you mean well, but know that sometimes that meaning won't carry over in speech. Like, you might not want to be disrespectful, but can come off as.

Sorry, this thread just reminded me about how funny I think it is when people say, "It's a boy!" when they have a baby.

EDIT: We really could use a universal gender-blind pronoun other than "it" to refer to people...
