Re: 9th Official Tournament -- Round 7
I'm pretty sure Wall Noise artists themselves don't consider their works music under the strictest definition of music, considering the genre itself implies it is organized noise and not music.
That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by some people for what it is.
Defining a collection of sounds as "music" or "not music" has absolutely zero to do with whether it can be appreciated or not.
ESPECIALLY for a game like FFR.
p.s. Robotomy is more musical than many files already in FFR. Rave 7, grind 2, RATO, the rest of Dev/null, Kkrusty, the breakcore-y-er Vsnares stuff, etc.
Also since when were judges allowed to deduct points or reject just because they don't like the song? I thought you were supposed to pass the file if that was the case...
I'm trying to figure out what the big deal about this file is beyond just automatically getting 1/10 ratings because someone didn't like the song.Last edited by hi19hi19; 12-11-2013, 10:32 PM.Comment

To me, Vortex is a good idea of how Flashcore should me.

Re: 9th Official Tournament -- Round 7
I find MOSAIC.WAV physically uncomfortable to listen to. Always have, I made Kyuin specifically because it was more or less the most awful song I could find.
So if I become a judge I can just give a well-thought-out file like Sokuseki! Nouchoku Music System a 1/10? Sorry, no little Japanese girls on my watch.
That seems a little unfair to the step artist, obviously I don't enjoy the song but I won't take away from people who do.Comment

Re: 9th Official Tournament -- Round 7
i quite enjoy listening to static sometimes, so i can get how some people would like the 'songs' in question

let me introduce you to a concept called:
~sUbJeCtIvItY~
also static noise sounds different compared to laserguns to me
there's still stuff that pierces my ears (blenders in real life)Comment

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to pass the file if you find the track painful to the point that you can't judge this impartially, yea. Rave 7 is probably the most abstract track we have lmao (and I'm pretty certain that only a very select few people enjoy it), but Robotomy's much longer and is just as noisy. There are a couple of Dev/Null tracks that are just as chaotic as Robotomy though, but none ingame. I know that you stepped one and I don't think many people would like it either, but that's another topic altogether (ps I enjoyed the track)p.s. Robotomy is more musical than many files already in FFR. Rave 7, grind 2, RATO, the rest of Dev/null, Kkrusty, the breakcore-y-er Vsnares stuff, etc.

I do enjoy listening to Robotomy, just that I don't think the general consensus would. A lot more people enjoy MOSAIC.WAV than you think though
EDIT: Noise is great to listen to from time to time.
on a less serious note, step Spiral Field Velocity instead it's better than Robotomy
holy shit that organising noise video is beautifulLast edited by EzExZeRo7497; 12-11-2013, 10:45 PM.Comment

Re: 9th Official Tournament -- Round 7
Television static isn't organized. That's the thing.
When you take noise and put a pattern in it, then it becomes cool to listen to.
For people who hear patterns in music more than pitches, stuff like flashcore is really interesting. I like hearing rhythmic variation, what I find uncomfortable is really bad singing (i.e. pretty much everything I've ever heard from MOSAIC.WAV)
If you enjoy off-key Japan girl squeaking and want to put that into FFR, that's cool. Make a technically sound file to it and I will still look at it for its technical merit and advocate that it gets into FFR.
I won't take what you claim to enjoy away from you, that would just be selfish.
Holy shit that's genius hahaLast edited by hi19hi19; 12-11-2013, 10:44 PM.Comment

Re: 9th Official Tournament -- Round 7
I have perfect pitch too just sayin' (Robotomy is in G minor for 1st half; D minor for 2nd)
but I enjoy rhythmic and tempo dissection more than anythingComment
