Re: No longer interested in gaming

So it sounds to me that since we've basically reached the highest level of efficient distribution there's no way video games could possibly get cheaper than they are now?

    Damn, that's a bleak future :[.

Either the demand for games overall would have to decline (which would force prices to drop to attract more buyers) or the skill involved in the making and productions of games will need to be lowered in value.

Well I imagine once skill involved in making current gen games decreases, that's when we evolve to the next gen and it becomes equally hard again. We have to go deeper...

Contrary to popular belief, people who make games are not always filthy rich (even in big companies). Smaller companies and big companies alike need to make hundreds of thousands to millions in order to survive as a company and be able to bring food on the table. Of course, the better employees with more responsibility get a higher pay and are able to live a slightly more luxurious life but by no means do most artists/designers/programmers have an above average yearly salary.

But spitfire what about the freelancers who charge 40 to 80 dollars if not more?

Freelancing by nature is a very unreliable source of income and freelance is paid well due that unreliability. Aside from the irregular (and often long) working hours, there are many pauses in between projects because a freelancer does not have a steady position at a company. It evens out on a yearly basis. And again, the better/more notorious you are, the higher you can charge because people will want you to work on their project more instead of you wanting to work on their project.

Another misconception. The skill required to make a proper looking 3D model at a high poly level is equally as hard (if not harder sometimes) at a low poly level.
To put it in another perspective: It's kind of the equivalent of doing a painting project at 9600x5400 pixels or doing it at 480x270 (tiny!). The bigger canvas allows for more detail, but the smaller canvas needs to be much more precise in its message/depiction. The skill and knowledge of making a good painting is unaffected by these dimensions.
Likewise with coding or gamedesign. Next gen allows for more detail (meaning more time invested) but current gen has to utilize their limitations to the max. The fundamentals of their knowledge/skill remains the same (except not really, always learn etc. etc.) and that knowledge is what's valuable.

Fez is a great game. It's a cute (I like cute fuck the haters!) and fun platform/puzzle game with some things in it still undiscovered according to Phil Fish. I like how Phil Fish said he would never port it to PC because PCs are spreadsheet calculators lol.

I got burned out on FPS online games and some other genres. Meh.

two decades of gaming sucks in a way, gets you burned out in most ways.

I'm no longer interested in being alive, but there is some things we just have to do.

I don't really play video games anymore other than WoW from time to time. I think the last thing I played was Crysis 2 when it came out.

Rubix, have you ever played Skies of Arcadia? If not, then I'm HIGHLY recommending it. The remake for Gamecube, because on DC there were certain things you couldn't get without an internet connection (final cham for Fina's weapon, specifically). Also battle rate on DC was fuckin abyssmal.

If you can't find a copy for Gamecube, I could send you mine. As long as I get it back with some kind of NYC souvenir.

still love it. there's something about competition and friends that just keep a sport interesting.

if you can get into a competitive or creative scene with an online game, that's a good way to make one game last a good forever. speaking of which, I wonder if people are still churning out new levels in LittleBigPlanet 2?

Thanks, glad I have a friend as good as you.

I really want to get back into gaming but for some reason new games can't hold my attention for very long. Still have no problem enjoying new anime, but games have somehow lost their magic appeal.

Get the impossible game. Fun. Cool music like paragonx9 or however it's spelled, costs 2 bucks and will challengingly entertain you. Especially if you once were a devout sm/ffr player. If you are not satisfied I will be incredibly surprised. A great game to add to your video game resume once actually completed. Feels good man.
