i dont really want to view previous threads so ill take you on your word but you equated my post with the "this" in your "every time he posts, this happens" when i didnt make any personal remarks which made me think the "this" was just "people voicing their disagreement". whatever though

I don't understand how to fix this though; if there are quite a few people that disagree with him, then there are quite a few people. Everyone's entitled to share whatever their opinion is, provided they follow the forum rules.

there are no specific laws that say "hey let's fuck over BLACK people"

the system does have kinks which tend to keep people in poverty below the poverty line and people that are wealthy even wealthier

it just happens so that because black people were oppressed extremely before, many of them are still stuck in poverty with no escape options

but as of now it is not because there are racist laws against them
it is because there is are perceived cultures among the race that we cannot fix (gangstas, rap music, fuck tha police whatever) and it is further exacerbated by the fact that we keep trying to hide the real issue (continued cycles of poverty) by saying race is the problem when it clearly is not

Actually, the concept was a serious one. I was just referring to the people who say "Justice For Trayvon", "Trayvon was an angel" etc. Trayvon isn't as innocent as the media and all the interviews led him out to be, the dude was a 'thug' and he was far from an angel as the media put him out to be.

Jim Crow laws, and they were in effect not that long ago, historically-speaking


Anyways this is obviously from a comedian but I think it's well-put

Also blacks are heavily over-targeted even today (big example is the war on drugs). Black families are constantly being torn apart.

i'm not entirely sure i agree with the idea that we live in a postracial society and our only issues are ones of class but i also dont feel educated enough to speak on the issue

however i will say that when these issues of social status/class and race are so inextricably linked from our nation's past to say that "race is not the problem" seems to me dodging the issue. like yes, in a way, "poorness" is the problem. but when so many black people (esp. proportionally speaking) are those aforementioned poor people you cant just shrug your shoulders. racism/racial oppression may exist in different forms--yes, we no longer have slavery; yes, we no longer have jim crow laws--but to broadside the black underclass with "eh, poor people" strikes me as inappropriate

i mean there are literal statistics you can look up in .5 seconds about how black people and other minorities are disproportionately jailed. my friend cites this: "people of color make up 30% of the united states' population, but they make up 60% of the imprisoned. black and hispanic students make up 70% of those students involved in school-related arrests or referrals to law enforcement." is it true? maybe; haven't looked it up myself. certainly some statistic of that nature is veritable, and when you see a statistic like that and go "race doesn't have anything to do with it" i fear for your abilities to connect some pretty connectable dots

yes but they don't go to jail because they are are BLACK

those that do go to jail do go to jail because

1) they're poor
2) they need a way to make quick cash

none of this is directly related to race
but rather our system has pidgeonholed them into a cycle of poverty (up until the civil rights movement, and for some time after that)


you're not getting my point
people aren't POOR because they are BLACK
people are poor because they WERE poor
and black people were generally POOR because of oppression

when i say race is not an issue, people being nicer to a specific race isn't going to do anything, if anything people in poverty need to be given proper aid so that their children can have proper education k-12 + college (this applies to all races)

then good job you're part of the system that hasn't improved in quite a while

e: keep blaming the problem on race and the system will never improve
financial aid and programs for education will make a tangible change to the problem
crying foul on the justice system for apparently making a racially biased judgement will not
