I might get Fennekin and keep him at evo 1 cuz cute and challenge.

But then again I always stick to Grass Starters when I play the first time. I like them more.

Ugh, why don't I have a 3DS? (and am too poor to get one) I've owned at least one game in every generation since 1998, but it looks like I might have to skip this time.

But if I do manage to procure a 3DS before release, I'd likely go with either Chespin or Froakie (I never was a big fan of the Fire-type starter pokemon).

I haven't played Pokemon since 2nd gen. The first thing I noticed about the new game is the fighting scene. Coming from my old Gameboy Color days, watching those 3D animations of pokemon battling seems like it could get tiring.

In my opinion, trying too hard to change is just as bad as trying too hard to stay the same.

A lot of people don't get that there's stuff in Pokemon for everyone. Yeah, beating the game is a joke. If you meet a fire leader and have a water pokemon, your work is done.

Thankfully there's stuff that requires strategy too, like the Battle Tower, Battle Subway and online matches, if that's what you're into. People complaining about challenge don't know how to Pokemon. They DID throw a lot of stuff in for old fans.

            when i was 11 i played ruby/sapphire
they didn't have to make the map a fuckin straight line and give me 5000 items and heals everywhere
But they did anyway. You apparently don't remember the game well. RSE are no less linear than BW, but in BW there are also REASONS to go back to places you've been.

I don't even understand why getting a 3DS is considered a bad thing? Why own any console? Just because it is cooler to own certain brand ones?

            "I don't want to be seen with a 3DS"?
Yeah this is dumb. The Wii suffers from it a bit too, in spite of being consistently more interesting and challenging (in terms of getting to the end credits, which few 360 and PS3 games take more than 3-4 hours to do) than its contemporaries.

I don't see it as "trying too hard to change" as it is just the natural evolution of the games, and our perception being further distanced from nostalgia of older generations. Every newer generation becomes a greater challenge for developers to come up with new ideas, from gameplay to the designs of the Pokemon. If anything, I think they're being wonderfully creative.

Yeah, that makes sense, and it's pretty much to be expected.

However, I was mainly focusing on that video's arguments. Most of them were just as bad as the obviously fake ones the author created to make those who are against the new version look bad.

I'm pretty sure some people have good arguments, such as; "It's not easy remembering all of those Pokemon, especially when you haven't played for awhile. A good aspect of the older generations was the reasonable amount of Pokemon. You still had to put effort into memorizing them all. However, you could do it within a reasonable amount of time. It's not easy to jump into a game that has more information in it than a college-grade text book.".

What I'm more worried about is how much space each game pack/cartridge has to fit in more Pokemon. In future generations, will there be room to fit them all? I really wouldn't want to see some Pokemon getting the boot from the game because of a lack of memory space. Nearly as bad is the thought of getting fewer Pokemon in each new generation to accomodate for space.

Actually the trying to be different argument is in a way wrong because the format of the game is always the same (except maybe when Ghetsis tries to impale you with ice. That was different...)

Also you may have forgotten this since it's been a while... But there's always been a way to turn them off. I don't see why that would change.

Watching the original animations is cool and even some of the original music tops out the remixes (tldr See Blue's theme. Sorry Nintendo, leave that shit alone.)

The game tries to not only be new and refreshing, but it also tries to maintain it's original game play style. Which can't be easy, but to be honest aside from Gen three, this was really well accomplished. I found when I returned to the Pokemon games (which is shortly before black and white came out) with a play through of Platinum I found it extremely refreshing. I actually had trouble figuring out what sort of Pokemon to use and sometimes where to go.

tldr: Pokemon easily has been attempting something extremely difficult and it can be argued either way if it was done well or not.

People who complain there are "too many" don't realize how bored they'd be with only the originals. I'll tell you if they hadn't added dark types or steal into the game, it would have died off very quickly.

Be a little more optimistic here people.

and I do want to punch myself for adding that.

However, the new generations of pokemon tend to only have a certain number of pokemon and not include pokemon from certain generations. I don't think there was any pokemon game (mainline ones at least) that had every pokemon from a previous generation available in the wild. The only reason you would even worry about the pokemon from previous generations is competitively, and if you want to go that far into the pokemon universe, it really isn't that big of a deal. Also that last line int he quote is kind of dumb, as there's nowhere NEAR that much information in pokemon.

More is not the issue for me at all. The problem is that the new pokemon designs don't match the old generations in terms of design principles. They've deviated from the original style of pokemon into a newer, polished, alien-like kind of pokemon style which breaks the consistency big time. Imagine a game like warcraft suddenly changing to a realistic style. That would take away the core design that makes warcraft warcraft. Same has happened to pokemon imo.

I get what you're saying; take things in a little at a time. I'm not saying that the argument makes Pokemon unplayable or not enjoyable. However, some people do feel that way about Pokemon and it does make a difference to them. I, myself, am concerned about it due to not having much time to devote to the game.

Also, I see the last line as pretty accurate. I recall a Pokemon guide I once owned during 2nd gen that was pretty huge, bigger than most of my current school books. I couldn't imagine one made for 6th gen. I'm pretty sure that even if you didn't include those notorious 'unofficial rules' for the game, there would still be a sizable amount of information left for the player to memorize.

No fuss here. I've played every single game inside and out I've caught every pokemon available. Including those special event pokemon. I plan to do the same with BW2 and XY. The game itself is not what draws me yet more the experience of catching all and leveling them to lvl 99. Yes I did once upon a time have an unlimited supply of masterball and rare candies exploiting the glitch in Emerald. But I did the masterball for the balls themselves when thrown.

Aside from this I enjoy catching each pokemon in order to lvl each evolution to 99. Say catching a pidgey and forcing it to lvl 99 without evolving and next evolution and so on. So this keeps me entertained.

in BW you have to backtrack like, once, and you HAVE to use fly or retrace your steps (from my understanding the sequels are not much different)
in RSE you have to backtrack a few times, but for almost all of them there's another route added in so you can loop around if you want to
