(and also before i invest in anything srs: do any MA players out there use a separate usb keyboard with their laptop for sm? i've only done it once or twice (including with stian's mech) and it seemed horrible timing-wise, though there's a chance it's just the not-used-to-it factor)
I'm not a pro but what I can say is read up on the different switches in mechanical keyboards if you've never owned one. Might not be lag from connecting to the laptop but it could have to do with switches. It might take some time to get used to a mech keyboard also, so don't jump to conclusions and think it's a bad keyboard.

    Good luck!

From what I remember, aCiiiii used a seperate keyboard on his laptop for MA scores, but that's all I could remember.

aciiiii had kinda poop MA iirc D: maybe i'll bum a normal-quality kb from someone and make sure the delay's not awful or anything before i look into better ones. i mean the chance of me actually getting a mech keyboard is incredibly slim (i got Billz 2 pay haha) but it'd be nice to have something that doesn't dump spazzy misses all the time

You should probably go for a flat keyboard instead like the Logitech UltraX (you're probably used to the flat keys on your laptop anyway), but I'm not sure if it works on your laptop or not since it's only PS/2 iirc?

ps those scores are sick, teach me how to MA speedy stuff D:

i got a 20 dollar wired kb at walmart last week, and i noticed i can hit streams, jumpstream, and awkward patterns a lot smoother.

it's the first time i've played in like 2 years so my MA wasn't comparable to what it was, but it didn't feel like it was getting in the way, it could be worth trying. I seemed to get marvs where I should, and didn't dump any cb's where i shouldn't

              edit: it's a dynex brand

yea i looked up some of his old scores, his MA was actually really damn solid haha. i mostly remember just a handful of speed scores (and something like 50s on cetaka's op v2). anyway yeah i like the look/sound of a flat keyboard since i've done really well on those super slim mac keyboards and the ultraX is a pretty proper price (as are the Dynexes). might be onto something here! i'll do some reading up and probably order one as a christmas gift to myself, thanks ya guys

IF you were to go with mech keyboards I think you find brown switches to be your friends
