    Re: ITG Cabinet Question (USB)

You need the machine to recognize your USB first. if you put it in and instantly a red x comes up on the flashdrive then it isn't compatable. BUT if it reads for like a little bit doing the card check then gives the red x then that might be a different error. I would suggest to go by your local best by or staples and buy an attache 2gig USB or buy one online cause 2gigs are actually a little hard to find these days.

That was my problem, they actually didn't carry any 2gb drives. I put the drive in, then after it recognized I plugged in the drive it I got the X.

EDIT: Those attaches, wut. I can't find them at any store near me, Newegg doesn't have any, and Amazon carries the 2gb for $33.

Get a 2GB Sandisk Cruzer, reformat it the moment you get it, and then insert it in the machine. That's what I have, and it works on any machine that I plug it into, no questions asked. I got mine for $8.

Buy any 4gb Kingston drive. I have 3 different Kingston model flash drives on my keyring just for ITG, all of them work great.

Not sure about brand, but I know that most times you can make a USB work even if it didn't before, by reformatting to FAT32. Also, and this is just what I've been told before, a cab has trouble reading larger USB drives because when there is an excess amount of free space, it associates it with corrupted data, so it reads the USB as if it were corrupted and does not let it work as a failsafe. But I may be completely wrong on that, just sounds about right to me.

I swear to god this is the gold standard of ITG USB sticks. I've had mine for most of my ITG playing time, and a ton of players over here had them too.

Get this stick if you can, I've played on a lot of machines and it's worked on every one that's had working USB drives.

One of my friends has used a 32GB stick before, not sure of the brand. This was back when that was a huge amount for a flash drive, like 2-3 years ago at least. Posting that to say the size of the drive doesn't matter

Having U3 will ensure it doesn't work. Maybe it's something more to do with the file system, how it's formatted?

The one I use was from Radio Shack, not sure if they still sell them. It's red/black and I got it mostly because you can attach it directly to a keychain and there's no chance it will break off.

So I didn't think people would still respond, but here's an update for those who actually care:

The first USB I bought didn't work (like I said in the OP). It was a 4gb Verbatim which I've never heard of. It didn't have U3. Returned it for an 8gb Lexar. The Lexar works perfectly.

This can also be closed if anyone cares to do it.
