If the straw doesn't rip through after I try to bang it, I just put pressure on both sides towards the center until one side finally busts open.

Just grip it on both ends, squeeze and pull, tears it in the middle. This method also sets it up for a very nice straw-rocket.

I don't recall ever breaking a straw when banging it on a flat surface. 99% of the time it works the first time, the other 1% is usually the second.

Tear off end, hit other end on leg, put exposed straw in mouth, blow, success.

Personally, I bang it on a flat surface but I am reconsidering just tearing off an end with my fingers because I am damaging way too many straws otherwise. It's just annoying when the straw wrapper is like a fukking hermetically-sealed plastic fortress of Zeus because then I almost HAVE to bang it (and like 50% of the time I wind up bending it).

I do it multiple ways. Sometimes I tear off one end and blow through the straw on the exposed end. Sometimes I squeeze the straw through, making the straw poke through (if it's a straw with a sharpened edge, I'd let the point do the job). Sometimes I squeeze from the middle letting the straw poke a hole in both ends and slide the condensed paper down one end. I dunno maybe I'm weird.

I don't use straws unless I'm driving then I just bang it on the dash or pull it in the middle until it rips.

I ****ing lol'd but this.. v ..should fix that problem

whenever i need to bang it i always grab at the bottom. the higher you grab the greater the chance of bending the straw when banging
