I think maybe talking to a gay person and better understanding might help more. Everyone not talking just seems like forced isolationism to me. Which is the problem in the first place.
Why does everyone have to be so negative all the time? Yes, a day of silence isn't going to magically change the world overnight, but that's not the point. The point is that someone has to start somewhere.
What's wrong with showing your support online as well as in real life?

This thread assumes:
1) That people read this thread.
2) That people care.
3) That people can actually tell when you're not posting for a reason other than that you're just not at your computer / don't care about the forums / don't see any threads worth posting in.
This does not work electronically. It only works verbally. The fact that you even attempted to do this is laughable.
Want to be supportive of gay friends? How about when you're in a group of people and someone makes fun of one, you step in and say 'hey that's not cool'. This is ten thousand times more effective than just being silent for a day.
Seeing how this day of silence definitely brought an end to gay discrimination and all.
This post failed almost as much as most people claim this thread did.
I did not realize that ending gay discrimination would:
A.) Make you gay.
B.) Make you forget what ending discrimination actually means.
This is like saying ending discrimination against blacks would make me black..

The one real effect threads and activities like this DO have is to point out to neutral observers (i.e. those who aren't GLBT or anti-GLBT) that there really is suffering and discrimination going on even if they don't know about it. I support this effect, and a controversial post in a thread like this would help that to happen.
You make an excellent point. I understand where you'd saying something to get a point across. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ignoring what people are saying, it's just that some people really sound like idiots and I had to vent in my point. I do hope that neutral observers did notice this thread, it's just a shame the way that some people discuss it on here.

Thanks for the support to everyone who's standing up for the rights with me. In fact, Quigly and a few others, I'm 100% straight. I gotta girlfriend who I love very much. I can still support a movement. Around 700 kids at my school did this yesterday.
I'm waiting for my medicine atm, but when I'm done I'll post the passage our badges state.

hi
anyway our cards/badges/whatever said this:
Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating
in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing
attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which
is caused by anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment.
I believe that ending the silence is the fi rst step toward build-
ing awareness and making a commitment to address these
injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today.

I'm sorry I haven't been around for the celebration. I've been coughing up blood and shaking and stuff. ): Anyway, congrats to everyone who lasted. I lasted at both school and here. Yay! :]
The withdrawal symptoms of talking are THAT bad?
