Why would it be a "no no?" The mines are still there, it's just a way for you to read the actual notes that would be surrounded with mines. Hell, I play noname rhythm with the invisible mines sprite and I fail it.

half of the challenge of playing with mines is training your mind to ignore them as targets

As Loot implied, the difficulty of playing with mines is not in being forced to hit for shorter durations, but rather in having to train your reading/coordination to avoid habitually hitting the mines as if they were arrows. Pretty much anyone can AA Bowser's Castle with NoMines, but probably no more than five have attained the same grade with mines enabled. Altering the mines image so that it appears as empty space is a nono because it removes that particular aspect of challenge and fools a person into thinking it was still there during your run. Furthermore, the process is pointless because you can easily accomplish the same visual effect by using NoMines.

Yeah a good example is when I play festival of the ghost edit I don't actually HIT any mines but because I have to read it differently my MA suffers.

with mines I have like 40 perfects or so, but without mines I could probably get teens/sdp.

If I changed the mine image from a mine to nothing, then I could easily duplicate my no mine score.

Unless your DP on Mischief Makers is so high that hitting all the mines would still result in an AA, it still shouldn't be done.

However, it also depends on what you're trying to show. In your case, it's probably the ability to hit the patterns and jacks rather than AA'ing the file as the author originally intended it to be done. In this instance, we would probably let it slide, but definitely not for stuff like FoG, Tsugaru, Carpet Muncher, etc.

Yeah I remember back in the day when I was making my 2 minute jack AAA video and I was close to the end and started getting a few late perfects and I was like NOOOO!!!!
