okay after looking at the setlists again i must say that rock band 2 is the clear winner
aside from a few very nice wt tracks, everything else you can get in rock band 2 plus rock band 2 has a load of awesome exclusives plus it's getting another twenty songs instantly when it's released
i might pick up a guitar bundle for wt but i'll probably just end up getting the disk after rb2's disk tracks get old
Really I think both setlists are spectacular. Honestly I might put GHWT's a hair over RB2's but only because there are songs on the list that I wouldn't call great songs but have special meaning to me. I'm still getting both games. All of my Wii GH and RB equipment will be compatible right? I'm running out of room in my apartment =/.
Well, I talked about which one was better with Gamestop yesterday, and they said that Guitar Hero 4's instruments were way better. They said that Rock Band 2's instruments looked really good, but Guitar Hero: World Tour's instruments actually made the game more realistic. And Guitar Hero 4 has song creator and GH Tunes.
But then Rock Band 2 has WAYYYYY more downloadable content (500+ songs by the end of this year) and online World Tour mode. Plus, they also have drum trainer, HD lag calibrate, Jukebox mode (you can listen to your songs, important, especially if you have a big library of songs, i.e. downloadable content), and flexibility of characters.
This is getting really confusing. I know everyone here in this thread will say to get Guitar Hero: World Tour, but honestly, tell me what you think of this, because I already made a down payment on RB2 kit, but it's not too late to switch.

Well it really partly depends on you.
If you're one of those people that is actually going to access the 500+ songs available, then that sounds like it'd probably be better for you.
If you're one that would be happy with GH's setlist, then 500+ songs being available doesn't make a hair of difference.
1) I am not going to buy DLC no matter what.
2) GHWT has potentially infinite DLC.
As for the games, RB's characters always looked really bad to me, I hate the rectangle notes, I hate the note explode animation (looks like a miss every time I see it), and I really don't like most of the songs.
As for the instruments, RB has a reputation for terrible stuff. The drums have no cymbals unless you spend $300 more for "good" drums (fat chance). The guitar is basic, standard, and ugly compared to the WT guitar.

huh
Rock Band's potential is also limitless. Your point is irrelevant.

I can see where you're coming from, but after the ****ing wackjob characters GH3 had, I'm not exactly going to be picky with RB's characters. Anyway, who actually looks at their character while playing? Not really important either way.
I hate the rectangle notes,
WHAT? That's crazy. I love the rectangular notes. They make more sense anyway, what with there being nothing circular shaped like that on a fretboard anyway.
I hate the note explode animation (looks like a miss every time I see it),
:\
and I really don't like most of the songs.
wut
I haven't been paying much attention to RB2's track list, but RB1 has THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER ******
As for the instruments, RB has a reputation for terrible stuff.
wut no. Just the first couple of runs or something were garbage. Anyway, I got my guitar, drums, and mic the day it came out and mine is still functional in every way, except that my tilt sensor in my guitar MYSTERIOUSLY doesn't work anymore. But like I said, first run was garbage.
The drums have no cymbals unless you spend $300 more for "good" drums (fat chance).
No, the basic kit has extension ports for cymbals as well.
And the word you're looking for is "premium".
The guitar is basic, standard, and ugly compared to the WT guitar.
GH fretboard is black, RB has simulated woodgrain.
GH has no "pickguard", RB has a white "pickguard"
The functional differences are the shape of the buttons and the fact that GH has that touch board thing that is probably a little fun to fool around with, but not very applicably useful in actual play.
RB's DLC potential isn't limitless. It's limited to what Harmonix wants to put in the game. Are you ever going to see Bramble Blast in RB? No. Are you going to see it in my copy of World Tour? Hell yes.
The characters have already been fixed. Longjaw doesn't exist anymore. In fact, they have at least half a dozen real people as characters and they look great. And of course it has the custom creator too.
I can't see the rectangle notes. They're too small. I can see the circles just fine.
RB1 and RB2's soundtrack in a nutshell: 20 songs you love, 70 songs you've never heard of.
Sorry, anecdotal evidence isn't evidence. You're the exception, not the rule.
The other differences between the guitars:
Real buttons (don't like the in-laid buttons)
Longer strum bar.
Wide Star Power button (as opposed to apparently NO star power button within reach in RB)
Longer guitar.

Given some of the nutty DLC RB has done, I don't think you could really count anything out completely. Some things might be highly unlikely, but nothing is impossible.
also: that song sucks

blah blah blah like I said before it doesn't really matter anyway, it's not like this is a game where what you play has anything to do with even seeing your character
In fact, I'd go as far as to say that my character could not even be appearing on screen at all during play and it wouldn't affect gameplay at all for me. And if it would affect it for you, then you suck balls.
RB1 and RB2's soundtrack in a nutshell: 20 songs you love, 70 songs you've never heard of.
I had heard most of the track list from RB1 (barring the unknown local band tracks of course) and after hearing them all, I love every single one of them, including the Boston locals.
RB2, I'm less familiar with, but I haven't come across a song yet that I could say that I do not like. At least a couple I had never heard before, but they were good anyway.
Sorry, anecdotal evidence isn't evidence. You're the exception, not the rule.
"I can't see the rectangle notes. They're too small. I can see the circles just fine."
UR THE EXCEPTION NOT THE RUL LOL GTFO anecdote ****
Real buttons (don't like the in-laid buttons)
Those buttons are the number one reason these guitar controllers look absurd, but I can see where you're coming from. I don't have any trouble at all on the RB buttons when no sliding is involved (i.e. orange button sucks), but I never built up the skill level where I could consistently maintain positions in slides (I had trouble keeping track of where my fingers were because it's harder to distinguish button versus non-button). I do like the RB buttons better anyway though, I just need to work with it more. I was never that hot at sliding on the GH controllers either incidentally.
Longer strum bar.
Do you play with each one of your phalanges on the strum bar then? I could strum on a bar about 1 inch in length without trouble. You're crazy.
Wide Star Power button (as opposed to apparently NO star power button within reach in RB)
Huh? The "back" button can be used to activate it. Took a bit of practice, but in this afternoon I was able to adjust to using that instead of tilting. Still had a little trouble maintaining play through activation, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I had that problem with tilts too when I first played GH.
hold on... is that thing that looks like it's supposed to be simulating a pickup... is that the star power button? That's a pretty good idea, I must admit, but I don't think it matters either way; I'd prefer tilting myself, if only my guitar worked right.
Longer guitar.
How do you feel about the RB2 bass then, considering it's noticeably longer? To be honest, I never thought the length was bad (on any of the guitar peripherals), but after fooling around with a real guitar I think I would appreciate more length myself. I believe they'll be doing "premium" guitars eventually, so I'll probably get that. Word is that they'll be converting real guitars rather than creating whole new plastic ****, so that should be good. I just hope they don't do like that other group before where they put GH buttons on there... I don't like GH buttons.
