The wall was primarilly for practical purposes rather than warfare. It kept the beasties out and the townspeople safe. Perhaps that was why the guards seemed so lax at the moment, taking aim with their arrows at a nearby tree, riddled with divits in its trunk, clearly a favorite to pass the time while on duty. However, all the while, a handful of the more serious guards patroled along the tops of the fence, gazing wearily out at the dark forest and its fresh blanket of snow. Many were wearing no more then the lightest of chainmail and even then, not everyone had that. Weapons were primarilly spears and two or three swords but not much else. "Wolf!" Cried out one of the guards who actually took their job seriously and unleashed an arrow that missed but only just, striking the tree trunk only a few inches away from the beasts head. Snarling, it hunched its shoulders as it trotted away back into the shelter of the wood.

Oh I was writing my story and had to copy and paste an exerpt for my friend to read. :3
