Why and how is it a bad influence? You've gotta support your claims if you want to post in CT.

As I said, rap music talks about language, sex, and violence, if you've seen rap music videos, those rappers have women in those videos. They had sex with those women and they have children. You know what they also spend that money on? They spend it on drugs, Jewelry, and designs for their cars.
What does the child get? Nothing, the rapper doesn't even support their child.
That is really sad. For example, Snoop Dogg has like seven kids and he doesn't care about them, he only cares about his money and women.
        Now this is wrong.

That has to be the most retarded thing I've heard in my life. I mean, they may rap about sex, drugs, and cars, but that's just a generalization. There are rappers that rap about the hardships of their life and inner struggles and society, just like metal and whole other variety of genres. That one-minded bull**** gets on my nerves. I think it's very immature.

By the way, Snoop Dogg gave his ****ing children a football team. You need to do research before you speak.

Metal is not like rap? Good one, another sign of ignorance.

Hello, Motley Crue? Poison? All those '80s metal bands were about sex, drugs, violence, and cars 24/7. And they -lived- that lifestyle.

Re: Rap Music Bad Influence On Kids?

We talk about this a lot in my media classes here at school...

Based on what I have learned in class and experienced in life I do not believe th at rap music, or any kind of music actually is a bad influence. Yes, there may be talk/lyrics that glorify thing such as sex, and drugs, guns, and gangs, whatever but that does not actually force anyone to take the lyrics seriously and to apply them to their life.

It's a lot like the video game argument, and television/violence argument. Do these things foster violence in children/young adults. The answer has to be no. There is no video game or song that can make you do anything. Any negative decisions that individuals choose to make in their lives is a personal choice that they make for themselves and cannot be blamed on any media types. It does not make sense.

Not to mention, if people weren't playing the blame game saying that rap was bad, they'd continue to say tv is a bad influence, if there was no tv they would say that other music was bad, if there was no music then there would be something else. There is always something else. The blame game never ends.

Maybe if people taught there kids respect and morals and how to be functioning members of society, and if kids would give up the teen angst and rebellion that ruins a lot of them people might just be okay. But, I don't expect that to happen anytime soon.

In short: no, I don't think rap is bad. Regardless of what it says, and individual has to make personal decisions on what they see and hear and make their own calls on life actions.

                    the end.
"They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself."

Re: Rap Music Bad Influence On Kids?

I'm not sure anybody was saying that rap music is capable of taking a perfectly moral, reasonable, intelligent person and magically making them want to do drugs, kill people, make money and spend it on whores.

However, just because it isn't going to -make- you act a certain way doesn't mean it is incapable of influencing someone who -isn't- secure enough with themselves and their self-image.

Put another way: If you are easily influenced by things, this seems a pretty bad thing to have influence you.

Re: Rap Music Bad Influence On Kids?

Of course it's an influence. Just like Metal, Rock, Blues, Country, Classical, or any other genre of music there is. And not only music, but also people, TV shows, movies, etc. Basically, anything can be an "influence", depending on how much importance you attach to it. If someone tells you wise words that can help you in life, then you've been influenced. Is that a bad thing? No. If your friend tells you about how awesome having sex or smoking pot is, and you decide to try it, you've been influenced. Is that a bad thing? Again no. It's absolutely normal, and the only descisions that are to be made must be made by yourself and a single being according to your own values.

EDIT: It's not so much that Rap is something that can easily influence people, it's more that it's so present in today's world, especially in ghettos where people don't have access to a good education. This makes it much more overwhelming and since everyone listens to rap and follows the example, it's vey hard to stick out of the mass and go your own way. The same thing would of happened if, let's say, Metal was the "main music" of ghettos.
