Re: Dragonforce vs. Children of Bodom
I take Children of Bodom. Alexi Laiho is just better in my opinion. Herman Li and his rhythm guitarist can only tap, play some ****ty powerchords, and play simple tapping sections from what I've seen. Children of Bodom does have a lot of repetition in their licks, such as powerchords and interludes, but I think it's better. Being a guitarist myself, I hate people who just play something because it sounds cool. The sound is a factor in a good piece but when you throw two distorted guitars with insane reverb in with horrible drumming, singing, and cheesy keyboard effects, you get something horrible. A big rotten mass of musical failure. Children of Bodom can mix these. The lyrics aren't always the best, but they fit the song titles. They most definitely aren't about magic dragons flying through purple mist either. CoB's keyboard goes with the guitar unlike DragonForce. I've seen/played several of the CoB keyboard unison and interludes and they're just awesome. I've never attempted at listening or playing a DragonForce song after seeing they're "I betcha can't play this video". It was a sloppy mess. Herman couldn't even pull off a simply Amin sweep with a hammer-on in the middle of it. The other retard just tapped between some frets and then went up. Music has to have soul in it. DragonForce fails at it. Children of Bodom isn't very good at it but I think they do a better job. I prefer the vocals of CoB, too. I hate, loath, and despise power metal vocals. It sounds like the guy swallowed a handful of needles before trying to sing. I like harsher vocals like Alexi's.
EDIT: Opeth, Dillenger, and Rhapsody are quite awesome though.
