no, they dont, because they are metaphorical marriages.

homosexuals are not asking for metaphorical marriages... hell, a kiss can be a "metaphorical marriage"; "the marriage of their lips"...

it's not something that's concrete, like real marriage.

Two people being married is concrete?

      When did this happen?

Sorry, I was under the impression that concrete meant that the thing in question was physically tangible and furthermore literally means
existing in a material or physical form; not abstract.
Yeah, you're definitely right here. The concept of marriage definitely exists in a material or physical form.

just like the concept of being someone's child exists in a material or physical form.

                Re: Gay Marriage Unconstitutional?

Of course afro won. It's impossible to argue that gay marriage is unconstitutional without adding religion. It just plain doesn't harm anybody. Why do you care who I want to marry? Why do you care if it's called a civil union or a marriage? If I am to have equal status in society, I must be able to become legally married.

There isn't an argument here. I can't possibly see any logical reason someone could think of that should actually deny gays marriage.

it might help if you listened to me.... just because you dont agree with me is no reason to IGNORE WHAT I SAY... in fact you'd probably do better to READ IT.

i have never argued the unconstitutionality of gay marriage. never.

                    Re: Gay Marriage Unconstitutional?

Yeah, I picked up on what was going on after thinking over my last post while watching Florida beat Arkansas.

FoJaR's not arguing against the idea, he's arguing the use of the word "marriage" in the name. Given what has been posted in this thread I would guess that he would not specifically object if the idea of "civil union" was taken to a legal level equal to that of "marriage" in the eyes of the country, as long as there was no actual official use of the word "marriage" and the ceremony was not a religious one (and not even held in a religious building).
I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

Personally, I don't think it matters what the heck you call it, so long as they have the same rights and tax breaks or whatever as straight couples.

Hell, if you really want to call it marriage, call it marriage! Just don't expect that to be the word they use in the lawbooks. What difference does it make to you? At least this way, the religious people are happier.

Ugh, the way I see this is that people are just going by whatever the society tells them to.

"Ban all of the Mexicans from entering America!"
"What!? NO WAY! That's racism to an extreme!!"
"I see your point, doing something like that in a way that affects that entire group of people is a terrible thing, and all people should have freedom in America."
                          ---
                          "Ban all gay marriages!"
"What? Why? They're not hurting us!"
"Because it is very wrong to have a sexual interest, even if it is not controlled, to another gender. The bible even proves it is a sin."
"Oh, hmm, you have a point. These people are no longer able to legally be bound together by marriage if they are of the same gender, even though it's a sexuality issue."
