    Re: Guitar Hero. Awesome.

I get that triples that are connected are easier than the ones that are essentially one double and a single with a gap between them, but see, with those, usually the change to the next triple is just removing one finger and putting another down. For example, in Cherub Rock, it was YBO, R-BO, RY-O, RYB. It's essentially walking the gap down the fret. It's logical. It makes sense.

With YBO -> GRY, you have to move your entire hand no matter what position you're in. You can't just shift one finger or lift & replace. The entire hand has to move. Quickly. I know sliding up and down is normal, but it's not normal to do it with triples on either side of the board.

I preferred the original where triples didn't exist =(

I think Activision doesn't understand how Easy, Medium, and Hard are supposed to be done. Since I haven't seen Expert, I'm not sure if the difficulty curve is continuing to be exponential, but I assume they basically double the notes or insert more in-between the patterns that exist on Hard.

Take Trauma Center, for example. Some people consider the game to be insanely hard. I love it. I started on Easy. I didn't fail a single operation. That's just right for Easy. The missions start off easy, then get slightly harder while still retaining the qualities that make them easy. Then you get to Normal. The last mission on Easy should be easier than the first mission on Normal. That's how it should be done. The pattern continues all the way up to Hard. Trauma Center also has an Extreme difficulty mode for a few bonus stages, which is just perfect. It's possible, but even the best player can't beat it every time. It takes both luck and skill. You actually feel like you've accomplished something when you do it. It doesn't change the basic formula you used to beat any other goal. It just makes it harder to do it.

In Trauma Center, you have a Vitality meter. It acts like a patient's heart rate, but you can't defibrillate if it drops to zero like in reality. Every mistake you make drops their vitals. Every second that passes drops their vitals. Every open wound that you leave open will drop their vitals even faster. On Easy, the patient's vitals don't really drop that fast at all. You will barely find yourself reaching for the syringe with the special medicine that raises their vitals somehow. That syringe will raise their vitals by 30. Considering the max is 99, that's really too much. It's designed for novices.

On Normal, their vitals drop a lot faster and mistakes are much more costly. The syringe only adds 15-20 vitality. It's significantly harder and you will fail often. On Hard, the vitals plummet on mistakes. In dangerous situations, a normal patient's vitality will drop 2 points per second. If they have open wounds, it will drop about 5-10 points per second. The syringe will only bring back 10 units of vitality. And oh, by the way, using it too much will waste your supply. There are times when the syringe will only just break even with the rate at which their vitality falls. Failing is common.

Then you get to Extreme. Holy crap.

That's just a taste of it. This guy sucks, by the way. I have a much higher score and a much faster time. He's way too jittery.

THAT is why I pre-ordered Trauma Center 2.

It's not really doubling the notes, just inserting the correct amount of notes of the song, or relativley thereabouts.

Before I Forget is one of my freakin favorite songs in the game. I nail that freakin pbfo section all the time.

Squeek, you just started playing. This pretty much is the answer to almost all of your complaints.

Time will make you a much better player. I wouldnt be this freakin good if i didnt play for pretty much 1.3 years nonstop.

I played Through the Fire and Flames online with a few players. I beat 4 players and only lost to 1. All pro-face off. Fun song to play.

If only I can beat the beginning solo offline...

I played through tier 3 on hard. I got 1st on When You Were Young, FC, good SP path (I think I'm pretty close to max, but I'm not going to study the chart and try to squeeze a few extra notes so I'm happy with it ), 1st on Paint it Black with an alright run, 2nd on Lay Down (I can improve), 8 th on The Seeker and crap on Miss Murder

I'm naturally great at all video games. Every single one. I suck at nothing.

When I picked up the original Guitar Hero for the first time, I played half of a song on Easy before realizing that it was retardedly easy. I bumped up to Medium and struggled with Blue for a while but got the hang of it after two or three songs. I bumped up to Hard and played a few on that. Then I went back and played a bunch of my favorites on Expert.

All of that in the course of an hour or two. I was passing Expert songs on my first try on my first day playing a music game. I've never played a musical instrument in my life, let alone a guitar. Heck, as I said earlier, I was even 3/4-starring "Take Me Out" on Expert with just one finger. I used my index finger for every fret.

That's why I say the difficulty is arbitrarily boosted. I don't know how to play guitar and I don't know how this game compares to it, but I know differences when I see them. People criticize stepfile makers in Stepmania when they put triples / quads in songs for no reason, so I don't see why I'm not allowed to do the same for GH3.

I've seen Muse play Knights of Cydonia live. You can too!

The picking at the introduction is legitimate. I get that much.

Oh my god during the verses he's not even playing until halfway through. +1 arbitrary note section.

Oh my god during the chorus he's not even playing until halfway through. +1 arbitrary note section.

Oh my god he plays incredibly slowly and isn't using chords. +1 arbitrary note section.

Oh my god it picked up but he's still not playing chords. Especially not three-finger chords. Heck, you can clearly see he's picking! +1 arbitrary note section.

Again, I know nothing about guitars, so I don't know if I'm completely right or not. I'm just assuming because I can't imagine people playing these ridiculous patterns during live performances flawlessly. I do know that they substitute keyboard parts for guitar parts in Guitar Hero to make up for blank space. That's just stupid.

"Hard" should be an accurate representation of the actual song. "Expert" should be overkill. That's if you want this game to be as hard as possible. If you want it to be designed for normal people, Expert should be note-for-note following the tabs and Hard should just be a step down.

                  So I got GH3 today.

Whored it for about 5 hours, got easy and medium careers done, and working on hard now.
Is it just me, or are the charts for GH3 a lot harder than the previous 2?

                    Yeah, they're much harder

And squeek, people have always complained that the songs on expert have more notes than the actual track. That's usually because most bands that play those ridiculously fast songs have two guitarists, and there's a few songs in the series that have you playing both rhythm and lead guitar at the same time, along with twin solos (TTFATF and others). There are definitely songs that have too many notes for what you're playing, but I tend to overlook it, as long as it's fun. Which it definitely is, once you're able to get through it.

Finally beat Lou on Expert today. Only took me a few hours, and then a few more. I was so happy when I did it that I spiked my guitar on the ground, I hope I didn't mess it up.

Also, I think I might be able to pass TTFATF if I could only pass the beginning.

Except they're doing it on Hard now.

I'd prefer one game mode that's "normal" before I get into "retarded insane arbitrary notes times a thousand" mode.

So I just got 93% on Jordan. Wow. I ruined it hard. I got a 90 and then I immediately pulled a 93 out of my ass. Meanwhile, I still keep missing on six D:

Which is harder...Jordan or through the fire and the flames?
