I don't think that's a very good way to judge the issue at hand. Had an upstanding forum member done something stupid enough to get banned, I think we'd have the same problem here.

I'm also not sure where you're getting this favorable opinion of these guys business. Everything I've seen regarding VxDx has only been negative. He was an asshole, and was despised because of that. I know I, for one, have very much enjoyed his being gone. Maka could be a jerk at times, but still made valuable posts (until recently when the mods had to go on a locking spree for his topics. That was lame). Has his banning made a positive contribution? Well, whatever he was doing wrong isn't going on anymore. Has it made a negative contribution? I know I don't really miss him. As far as I was concerned, he just got bored with the forums; I didn't even know he was ever banned.

I dont know if its still too premature to do an "Unban Such and Such" Poll, but I think that doing one would be a good idea, just to see how things stand.

Four options: Unban Both, Unban Maka, Unban Vxd, Keep them banned.

Voila. With no "I'm not sure" Option, because that is pretty inconclusive.

I think that one should be made...relatively soon. But, whatever.

I don't think that'd be a very good idea. This isn't a democracy here; the admins are in complete power and can do whatever the hell they want. We don't need to advertise popular support for something with which they don't agree. It makes them look like the bad guys. Remember, they aren't here to represent the peons.

I see where you're coming from, Guido. Tell ya what, go AIM a few Forum Regulars and ask them if they liked Vx. Most of them do. It was sorta like one for those things where ya love to hate him. Or something. As I believe Arch once said, if you want to be popular, be an ass. I think that's what he said. Something like that.

When I said "negative contribution" I meant something like, his posts offending someone who isn't a religious extremist, or making a flamewar (or at least making a flamewar that wasn't about his bannings and that stuff). I used to think they were both jerks that were way too mean, rude, indecent, and all that hoo-haa until I looked at them a different way and found his posts quite funny.

Maka DID get bored with the forums, but he recently came back, and now he has been banned.

And they HAVE made positive contributions of FFR. They are both very capable of intelligent discusssion, and stuff.

Meh. Sometimes they are flexible. When the Admins are 100% on their own and don't listen to the forum, things can get a litlle heavy. So, I still think having a poll could be a nice way of showing the forumgoers' opinions. If it is an overwhelming majority on either way, then the Admins may as well act, so they can keep the populace happy. Say, if most everyone wants Maka unbanned, then, why not? It kind of makes sense.

I realize that if the admins stay solid, then there is nothing that can really be done about it. But around here, almost everything (exept some of Synth's executive decisions) has been put to and partly decided by poll.

Besides, I want to know where everyone else stands in this. I think it would be rather interesting to see the results, even if nothing is done about them (which, I still argue, should to some degree).

This site with the amount of traffic it gets needs about twice as many admins and moderators as it currently has.

@Omega: Okay, I believe you. I tried to avoid anything having to do with VxDx, so I didn't really try to figure out popular opinion, because I still think he's an ass and won't be missed.

@Qreepy: Yeah, it's just my nature to have extreme respect for authority figures.

@Laharl: Originally, I thought "YES!", but do you really think that that would solve the problem? Are our current mods/admins swamped? The problem here is with the actions that the current mods make, not with things getting out of hand to the point that more people could bring it under control.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. You don't get banned for being a productive, nonoffensive member of the forums. Whether or not a user gets/stayed banned is up to the admins. If a user wants to get back in the forums, he should plead his case to the admins, not try to dodge the bans.
Bans are not temporary in nature. This is similar in nature to being expelled from school for bad behavior, then changing your name and trying to get back in next year. Perhaps a formal meeting with the principal would be more effective, instead of just irritating more people by coming back anyway, masquerading as the victim of some sort of injustice?

Bean I think deserves to be banned for a week or so, a warning ban of sorts. He's part of the problem, IMHO.

MOP had a good post with a few valid ideas but 3 pages worth of flaming and debate is not going to help or hurt his point. This is going to turn into more and more flaming and people are going to get more and more pissed.

Yes, that's sort of what I said. An asshole is usually a character in a community, someone people remember. Think of it this way - if you're an asshole in a community full of assholes like you, you're less likely to be remembered.

Firstly, thank you for reposting this, 87x, but it really wasn't necessary. I would have reposted it if you had given me until the next morning.


Now that I look back on this thread, however, I'm really fucking sorry for all the shit that's been given to you since you've become an admin, Arch, but some of the stuff you do... well, asks for it (even though some of the stuff you're accused of doing might not be your fault, we accuse you for it anyway). And I'm sorry for this thread being reposted.


I don't see why the bullshit posts can't be deleted and this be left unlocked... but at this point, I'm not sure I don't want this thread re-deleted. And I know my opinion doesn't even matter too much, because I'm not a mod nor am I an admin, nor will I ever be (and I don't even want to any more... me being modded/adminned would cause an FFRmageddon).


By the way, in case anyone is wondering, FFR wouldn't be considered a dictatorship, it would be an oligarchy. "Ruled by an elite ruling class."
(I'm sure at least 50% of the people reading this have to tell themselves that they knew that, or at least what 'oligarchy' means, even though they didn't, because they have to overcompensate for their 2-inch penis.)

And yes, this is an end to the Anti-Arch rebellion. If anyone wants to take up the torch they can, I guess, but it's pointless because the admins can do pretty much whatever they damn well please. I can't believe it's taken me this long to realize that.
