No love for Ohio State
Apparently 20 straight wins means nothing if you're stuck with weak schedules. Boise State knows that feel.
To all the haters, I propose an experiment: You think Alabama and Oregon will wipe the floor with the Buckeyes? Good. Let's get them onto the same gridiron and let the boys play it out. Until that happens, everything is conjecture and hypothesis. |

Re: No love for Ohio State
O rly? Well isn't that just a quack. I feel bad for all of the undefeated teams when it comes to these rankings and polls. They should battle it down till the very end, determine the true undefeated winner each year I always thought.

Re: No love for Ohio State
Ohio st would look like a middle school team against Alabama just like all the other non-SEC schools. I think many people tend to forget how good Alabama really is. Ohio St would definitely be competitive with any other team though in a big stage game.

Re: No love for Ohio State
I don't think OSU would get slaughtered, but I strongly feel that they would lose to each team ranked ahead of them.

Re: No love for Ohio State
Maybe they should schedule some decent OOC competition if they wanted to be taken seriously in the polls. Do they have a chance to beat Alabama/Oregon in a head-to-head battle? Absolutely. Have they done anything to prove that they can compete with top tier competition? No. That's the system we have and we've had for decades, they know that in advance, and they could schedule a couple decent opponents from big conferences if they wanted to.
But then they couldn't sneak in when Oregon/FSU inevitably fucks up

the Big 10 is down this year, so OSU won't get a ton of credit for running the table. that's the way it goes. until/unless a playoff system is implemented, that's the way it will remain. "To all the haters" makes it sound like you're talking to more than ~10 people didn't we hear a lot of this kind of talk during the year when Auburn beat Oregon on a last-minute field goal in the bcs championship game? |

Re: No love for Ohio State
I'm offended that FSU was omitted in the OP.
Florida State is the best team in the nation right now. No one else's resume even compares at this point in the season. They've slaughtered two top 10 teams by a combined score of 92-28. The only other undefeated team to beat a top 10 opponent is Bama, who narrowly escaped A&M 49-42. In that one game, Bama gave up more yards total yards (628) than FSU did in both of their top 10 match ups combined (601). Bama hasn't been as dominant as Oregon or FSU, but will get a chance to flex this weekend. Down the line, UO and Bama will get a chance to make better cases than FSU, but as of now, they can't say as much as the Noles can. This is also why Ohio State isn't in the conversation yet. They've looked sloppy up until these last two games, despite not playing at the same level of competition as the teams ahead of them. Ohio State is lucky to be in front of Baylor right now (I retract this statement after looking at schedules). Ohio State is only ranked this high for the same reason Bama is: Last seasons success. e: and this should be obvious, because since the preseason poll, OSU has only moved down.

Re: No love for Ohio State
I just hate Alabama and the SEC. I've lived in Missouri all my life and obviously follow Missouri, which is unfortunately now in the SEC. Despite choking a game against South Carolina, they've beaten better teams than Alabama has thus far. All Alabama has done was barely squeak by Texas A&M.
OSU has a pretty easy schedule, so they don't get looked at very thoroughly as you mentioned. The real #1 is FSU |

Re: Baylor
Baylor has a backloaded schedule. They haven't played anyone yet but their remaining games are against Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Texas Tech (all who are or were recently top 15 teams), TCU and Texas (both of whom are having down years but are still dangerous). They could definitely make a national championship run. Baylor will pass Ohio State in BCS rankings almost certainly if they both run the table; Oregon and Stanford play each other so the loser will certainly drop behind Baylor. That leaves FSU, Bama, and Stanford/Oregon ahead of them if they all run the table. Baylor just needs two of those teams to falter to make it in the big game if they win out.

Re: No love for Ohio State
I'll put Baylor's second and third strings up against anyone else's for as much playing time as they've gotten so far. Could you imagine what Bryce Petty's numbers would be if he played more than ten collective minutes in the second half?
Their schedule was indeed backloaded, and the upcoming games make me sweat a little, but I think they have a decent chance of winning out, and if they do win out they most certainly deserve to be in national title contention for beating all those ranked teams and utterly destroying everyone else. --Guido |

Re: No love for Ohio State
Unless Bama gets upset, this is exactly what I wanted to see. I want FSU to be the team to dethrone Bama and the SEC.

Re: No love for Ohio State
New rankings are out!
1. Alabama .996 2. Florida State .962 3. Ohio State .893 Yay, they made number 3 in the computers, but that's a HUGE gap. OSU needs one of those two teams to choke while continuing to kick ass, and I dunno if that's gonna happen... |
