Re: The end of the world

My poor thread is going to hell from all of duhh's retarded posts. Not you guys arguing back, that makes for some good discussion. I'm enjoying this. And after reading this, I changed my mind, we won't die from anything unpredictable, it'll be that we kill each other over the internet. Fun stuff right there, man.

Re: The end of the world

When the sun goes red giant the Earth will either be consumed or the sun or will simply be turned into a planet as inhospitable as Mercury, I imagine that will be the end of the world.
But our galaxy will collide with Andromeda before this. So it's not going to happen anyway, likely.

It depends on really how direct the hit is.

Not that this will necessarily destroy the planet Earth itself, but there will no longer be any life on it.

How about we all listen to Al Gore: "Global Warming!"

Haha, I love Al Gore. He is the only (that I know of) ex-presidential candidate who has become such a celebrity. He was on MTV! How can you beat that?

Global Warming will take to long to kill us. By the time it would, our oil reserves would have been long gone and the ozone would have restored itself. I would have to agree with the entire humans destroy humans idea. I mean, just look at Korea. They could nuke anywhere at anything. Eventually it's just going to turn into this:

          1. They send of a nuclear weapon.
          2. Other countries retaliate by sending theirs.
          3. Something stupid will happen and we still start shooting them at each other instead of the originating point of Korea.
          4. World gone.

Or the Apocolypse could overcome our mortal souls and feed us all to the demons of an unexistant hell. But, that's my opinion so it doesn't matter.

People who don't have absolute control are far more trustworthy to handle nuclear weapons as opposed to psychotic dictators who actively want millions of people dead.

P.S. Any more crap like what filled most of the second page of this thread will be deleted and you will most likely be seeing some ban time.

I suppose that's true, but is there ever really even a "right" time or person to control any weapon of that kind of power?

Re: The end of the world

I would hate to be killed by a nuke. First off, I have a weird phobia of tall, thin things that rise straight into the air( i.e. gysers, waterspouts, massive 500 foot poles, mushroom clouds, ect...). So just looking at a colossal mushroom cloud from a distance would probably put me into the fetal position. Then the whole flesh burning flames that melt your eyes out of their sockets would suck. Plus, to see the world end would be horrible. Mankind has come so far and all we've accomplished would be lost.

Although, to witness the Revelations of the Bible would be extroadinary.

Re: The end of the world

I vaguely recall something about a dragon with 7 heads and 10 tails being unleashed when the armies of Gog and Magog try to take over the world, or something. I'm shaky on Revelations.

The non-religious answer is the Law of Entropy. I honestly doubt there will ever be a nuclear winter, and humanity isn't capable of completely wiping itself out. There will never be something extreme enough so that there won't be a victorious side in some massive conflict that both sides end up completely taking each other out. It's just not possible. End of civilization as we know it, possibly, but end of the world, no.

Re: The end of the world

Depends on what you mean by the end of the world. If you mean the end of civilization, who knows? If you mean the destruction of the Earth itself, it will be consumed by the Sun when it expands into a Red Giant. By that time though, we will be so advanced we will more than likely not live on the Earth anyways, more than likely in the next 1,000 years we will move to space colonies(floating and on other planets). Most people consider the end of the world as when all humans die, but that is just ridiculous

Why wouldnt mankind be able to wipe itself out? If there was in fact a nuclear war, and the projected outcome of both sides just unloading on each other actually came to pass, the ecosystem would not be able to take that. If the initial explosions and fallout didnt kill people off, then the subsequent nuclear winter (which is in fact totally possible) would.

We'd figure something out. Humanity is resourceful like that. Unless the ENTIRE HUMAN POPULACE was hit at the exact same time, which I'm pretty sure wouldn't happen, there'd be enough people that would survive that eventually, the earth would be repopulated.
