Re: The end of the world
When the sun goes red giant the Earth will either be consumed or the sun or will simply be turned into a planet as inhospitable as Mercury, I imagine that will be the end of the world.
My view on nuking the world
Even if every human dies, it is not really the end of the world if bacteria still exist, in fact, they could probably re-evolve into intelligent beings before the sun died out if we quickly nuked the world. But I'm not even sure of the effects of radiation on different types of bacteria, or whether radiation travels to the bottom of the ocean. If you have an ocean teeming with life, then how could it be the end of the world? Especially if whales and dolphins still existed which are quite certainly intelligent beings, it could not be considered the end of the world.
