First off, Socom 3 was a terrible game. It was handled all wrong, and was made terribly. I was in love with Socom 2. I put over 2000 hours into the game. There is no way you can compare Socom to Halo though. They are completely different in terms of style. Socom is a generic tactial Navy SEAL game, while Halo is more of a Sci-Fi Fast Action shooter. I've seen plenty of movies that I was like "Hey, look, it's Socom". Can't say the same for Halo. There is no need to compare them at all, and there was no point to even bringing the game into discussion, as a movie is not being made for it, nor are we talking about good shooters to compare to.
Anways, a lot of people had doubts when PJ attempted to make the LotR triology, and that seemed to turn out well. Although, I suppose he may have had a bit more to work with on those. Note: I haven't read the Halo books yet so I'm not sure exactly how rich the storyline is.
As far as I'm concerned, Silent Hill has been the only good video game movie, and even if Halo sucks, I'm still going to go see it. I didn't know it was going to be based off the first book, so maybe it won't suck THAT bad.

Its probably gonna be an OK movie, not quite as good as the game, I mean what game-based movie HAS been really good. I liked the 1st book:Fall Of Reach. It was interesting and I think there will be enough story to make it an intresting movie.
it will suck, no matter who directs it.
not unless its like real final fantasy spirits within cgi effects
now thats some tight scheisse there
Yeah, it'll suck really hard if it's anything like FF:SI.
But since it won't be, I bet it'll be decent, and even pretty good for action movie standards. I've read all the books and there's quite enough for an action movie, though little more. You could read those with a sixth grade reading level, I bet. Very entertaining, but also very easy to read.
And yes, Vin Diesel has been confirmed to play Cortana in the movie. Still searching on a Master Chief, though.
Cortana was Master Chief's AI who was often displayed as a hologram. Very much not a book-specific character, as she talked to you through the whole game (both games).
