Wow, a lot of people do not get the point of this thread. Seriously, stop and think for a second, do either Seether or Green Day need more attention? Or do they both have millions of fans, plenty of airtime, and a hell of a lot of recognition. Stop mentioning bands that we have all heard of and know and are popular and argh.

I'll stick with my tried and tested method, which mindfields helped with, which is using google to see how well known a band is:

Good band. Some information:

Here, MAGELLAN meets KANSAS. The band is a collaboration between vocalist Todd Plant (MILLENIUM, EYEWITNESS) and multi-instrumentalist Rick Duncan, a prolific songwriter who has previously worked with former members of The DOOBIE BROTHERS, CHICAGO and STEELY DAN

Highly recommended for fans of GLASS HAMMER, but fans of KANSAS, RUSH, SPOCK'S BEARD and SAGA will definitely get a kick off this band too.

Another band would be a new prog metal band known as Wastefall:

They are from Greece (random information).

Though similar to the brilliant PAIN OF SALVATION of Sweden in many ways, WASTEFALL are set to carve their own niche in the artistic side of progressive metal.

Highly recommended for fans of PAIN OF SALVATION or intelligent prog-metal in general.

Um. I'll add Dandy Warhols. A couple of their songs have been in commercials and TV but they deserve more attention I think. 13 Tales From Urban Bohemia is excellent.

Not much is known about ARDO DOMBEC except that they were an early 70's German prog band who released an album with a heavy, bluesy, and slightly jazzy feel, ending up barely sounding German at all. Often compared to COLOSSEUM, their music features a lot of saxophone, often matched by electric guitar and flute. Their arrangements are upbeat and bright, yet the lyrics are rather dark and cynical in contrast. The band consisted of Helmut Hachmann on sax and flute, Harald Gleu on guitar and vocals, Wolfgang Spillner on drums and vocals, and Michael Ufer on bass.

I don't think any bands/singers deserve to be more famous. They should work their butt's off harder and find other means possible to get themselves noticed. (That's how I see fame)
However, now in days... you have to be a terrible singer and have a successful family member to actually be known (*cough* Ashlee *cough*)
