Double setup lets you hit jacks as though they were trills (left on left hand, left on right hand, left on left hand, left on right hand, etc)
I wouldn't be surprised if it'd make turns, jumps, etc. easier too.Patashu makes Chiptunes in Famitracker:

You don't have to move your arms as fast, but it's so hard to read, that you will get good quicker just using spread.
I can do jumpstream with double setup very well, but only if none of the jumps are 16th notes. Since I'm good one hand I can handle the jumps easy, but when it comes to my left hand, I can't process it that fast.
Jacks are easy to do, but it doesn't really help if you want to FC something like duk's K8107, because the jacks change on different hands.
Turns are a problem to do at first, but after a while it isn't that hard to do. It probably isn't hard to do on spread either.

Double setup is just like any other style in that you have to practice to get better. But the fact that it uses twice as many keys as other styles leads a lot of people to believe it is cheating -- including myself. This is generally accepted and acknowledged.
