EDIT - tried it. Couldn't coordinate two hands with up/down, but left right was working just fine. Kept hitting keys that were unassigned >.<

Thanks for the information on this! I was doing the 1-handed three-finger method and while it seemed ok for most stuff, I could already see how stuff like going from 14 jump to 23 jump was a bit awkward.

After reading the thread, I decided on left middle on left, left index on down, right index on 8 and right middle on 6. I believe someone mentioned that variation earlier in the thread, and it seems nice because it feels a bit like spread (no fingers are above others and the order matches the arrows) but without having to remap anything.

I agree that 4-finger does seem a bit tricker as far as timing goes. Definitely getting less perfects, though I'm sure some of that was just that I need to get used to it. But I managed to FC on Dance 2 This just now, so that's pretty good for a half hour of adjustment (I've only been playing like 3 days anyway..haha). I think it probably helps that I've done juggling and yo-yoing and other stuff that involves both hands and tempo. Not helping me as much as one would hope, though. I'll be happy if I can ever pass something harder than standard..haha..

I may have to give index a shot too, since my whole point in starting this stuff this was to get some exercise, but started playing FFR while waiting for my ps2->usb adapter to arrive. It has definitely gotten me ready to recognize patterns and stuff, but now I'm going to wish I had four feet.

- Second Finger To The Thumb
- And Middle Finger

1 handed is a handicap... i played 1handed and couldn't do anything, nowadays i play spread, i can combo songs much harder then i could as a 1hander

I've never seen this thread before now, haha.

Bottom line is that anyone who says one hand isn't a handicap isn't playing hard songs, and is likely only playing FFR. I can't understand why people are actually taking their comments seriously. One hand is really fun when you're bored of playing normally, though.

I use a style that's not mentioned on there - pretty much because it's not really a style. It's basically just three finger, except with a fourth finger (right ring) thrown in.

Anyway, in case anyone still cares, the description of three finger (two hand, of course) is a bit inaccurate. 53 trills aren't harder (that's on the numpad, 34 trill as you have it listed) with three finger because you can just use your left index for up during the trill. This style is good for compatability with just about all simfiles. It's basically just index except it makes interrupting jumps easier.

That's where my style comes in. It's one step closer to being on par with true 4-finger when doing interrupting jumps. I use 1235 on the numpad, which is the same as using the arrow keys, but my arrow keys can't register quads. I can assign a key to each finger if a stream is too fast to do otherwise (say, Death Reveals), but it's really hard to coordinate, because I'm essentially one-handing down, up, and right.

It has all of the advantages of index and is much closer to the capabilities of true 4-finger than index. A major problem is that I'm stuck under the 4-finger category. I do fine most of the time, but when an extremely 4-finger biased sim is wrought upon me and assholes make me play them, my scores look extremely weak. Otherwise, I like using it.

Also, it makes alternating jumps (mostly 23 15 23 15 on the numpad) exceedingly difficult. For songs with 53 12 53 12 and 13 25 13 25 patterns, I guess you could say I play 5-finger a bit. On 53 12 53 12, I have my right middle on up, my right ring on right, my left index on down, and my left middle on 1. For 13 25 13 25 I have my left middle on left, my left index on right, my right index on 2, and my right middle on up. The latter mentioned is weak on OML heavy and such, where I have to go straight from streams to it. I can't position my hands quickly enough to avoid a miss or two.

Another advantage of my style (and also 3-finger, I think) is that I can easily use other styles. I'm not terrible (see: Snapps lol) at one hand, even though I rarely use it. I'm about average as far as indexing goes. I've started playing spread a little bit out of curiosity of what it's like, and I'm better at it than most people are when they start playing spread.

So, yeah.. my style isn't so much one style as it is a bunch of styles blended together. How did I come up with it, you ask? I started playing before I had such guidance as this thread. I think I started playing index, and began using my right middle for crossovers when I realized it was easier. I introduced the right ring and left middle when new problems arose in harder sims. I can't say I would advise anyone else to try it.
