my girl took the night off work because i complained about not having a boyfriend, bought me a box of chocolates, i got her flowers, and we sat around all night eating ice cream and watching League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Xmen, and Xmen II.

Bought a love potion #6 box set with two things of soda, and we drank it in wine glasses...

And I made her a fancy shrimp fetucini alfredo dinner...

Bought a bungh of bags of candy hearts and spelled out I LOVE YOU on my bed...

Bought her the notebook... We watched that...

Time, if you're not joking, then we're going to get into how sickening Valentine's Day is rather than considering the good parts. >_<

I've ranted about this enough times and I don't want to take on a "holier-than-thou" attitude, but if you're blowing that kind of cash on something like that, there had better be a darn good reason (not including "i wanted to impress her with money rofl"). :/

Valentine's Day is supposed to be about love. Money does not equal love. Do something nice from the heart, not the pocket.

20 carot diamond for 1000? My dad payed like 3k for a one carot diamond, and that was big. A 20 carot would be massive, and it would probably cost closer to 10k.

That's true too of course... but I don't think there's anything wrong with having a day to take special acknowledgment of something like this. Just like we have Thanksgiving to remind us of the things we are most thankful for, we have this to remind us of what we love the most. A day in honor of love? That's fine by me. At least that's how I see it.

What's not fine is the mass materialism surrounding the day. When people expect to receive some kind of expensive gift, go to some fancy restaurant, or whatever else the media wants you to do on Valentine's Day, there's something horribly, horribly wrong.

I overheard a girl complaining because her boyfriend took her to an inexpensive restaurant on Valentine's Day... and I just thought... wow. Who cares? She'd still spend the same amount of time with him no matter how much money he spends, and isn't that all that matters? Actually, she should be happy that he is is sensible enough to not waste money so easily :P

Ick, sorry for ranting, but I have pretty strong opinions on this.
