It's all cultural really...I guess that's why some piercings seem more barbaric..because you usually see them in pictures of some African tribe.
I do agree, it is very much a cultural thing...though I wouldn't say barbaric. It's just a different culture. I am sure in some cultures certain percings have special meanings or whatever, but in Western culture they dont. And most white/westerized people can't pull it off. Same goes for those 'tribal tattoos' and 'Chinese character' tattoos. It's like "come on honky, who are you trying to fool? Everyone knows you arent black/asian."

My asian mother would be appalled if I got anything other than my ears pierced.
i love my piercings, but my nipples... those where agonizing. a few years ago, i got all hammered on some jagermeister, and before i knew it, i had a 6'2'' 250lbs guy sitting on my legs while i was laying on a couch, having a friend shoving saftey pins through my nipples. the next morning, i couldnt even put my shirt on when i woke up.. they hurt really bad, so that day i went out to a hott topic or something like that and got some real barbells to put through them... yeouch... that one really hurt... lol
You think so, Brad? All I can see from the picture is one eye, some hair, and a nose. And while the one eye, nose, and hair look fine, how can you be sure about the rest of the face?
PS that's a terrible photo. I know at least a little about asthetics and that photo adheres to no standards.
