RE: Re: RE: Taking the edge off of role-playing...

This is an interesting idea for me. I've never taken part in role-playing, but it looks fun.

But would there be an order for the people posting? Ex: Person A posts first, then Person B, then Person C, and finally back to Person A again.

And it's okay to include events from previous posts in your own, right?
    Ex:
Previous post: Sally (Previous poster) opens a door and goes in.
Next post: Jack (Current poster) notices a woman go into a door and proceeds to follow.

It doesn't go in any preset order but in order to keep the story going all RP'ers must read EVERY post so that you don't have to include past events.

Ehh, it was still on the first page, so I don't think it's a bump...is it? And if it is, I can always explain it away with some weird accident involving lighting myself instead of the Yule log or something else equally bizarre.

Anyway, Eyoshi brings up an interesting point. Granted, we are assuming that everyone that enters the storyline are all reasonably sensible and can put together a string of cooherent posts if need be, but still...

Generally, the way I'm used to is that if a character is being addressed, the next to post is the one whose character was addressed. If a character is not spoken to directly in a post, then the next to post is the one who jumps on it first. It's a very free-flowing style that adapts easily to people who need to go AFK for an extended period, people who live in different time zones. One guy I know is running an RP set in an environment not unlike the Wild West from an American military base in Japan, where it's GMT +8.

As for your point about rereading past events, Chromer, it might help if the thread creator (the one who started the RP) would keep a running account of the major events that have transpired, what's happening now, whether they are willing to accept new people (and how many they are willing to accomodate) or declare that the RP is full, and of course, in the case of a fighting tournament being held, keeps track of wins and losses.

Typically, most tounaments I've been a part in has a main thread where the winners and losers are documented, with each fight taking place in a separate topic, sometimes with at least one neutral party to decide what happens, which is generally the safe way to go. But for a clash between two highly skilled role-players, it's sometimes better to eliminate the middle man and trust that the combatants will know how much punishment is enough to throw in the towel, which is true in most cases. Then again, I've never seen any fighting-tourney RPs be fought all the way through. I managed to get to the finals of a tourney by a technicality once, but the match to decide my opponent ground to a halt.
