I use photoshop filters all of the time. That's how I get most of my pictures the way they are. I make this one snakeskin desktop by making brown streaks and then using the Gaussian blur. Then I twirled and rippled it a little. Then I made some words. Then I used the stained glass feature and made the tiles pretty small. Then I lasso'd the words and used Ink Outline on them. Wa-la! Semi-Snake sking desktop..

maybe I am a filter whore.....

Good. Now post something that you can do without using filters.

I've never known any Graphics site wether it be based on signatures or it be based on the creation of large pieces condemn filters with so much passion.
In fact, using only filters takes much more skill, many say.

Sorry, but straight filters didn't make this: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26925343/

Infact, I didn't use a SINGLE filter on that.

Filters are good for pretty-ing up a piece, or elements of a piece, but it's good to not rely on them to completely make or break a piece =/

What Moogy meant to say was "photoshop filters should rarely ever be used. Only photoshop newbs whore the filters. It is very unprofessional and looked down upon in the photoshop community.

Are you freakin' serious???? Rofl, you obviously have no idea. Let me guess, you'd prefer using downloaded brushes someone else made? Yay for trendwhore "grunge!"

I made this yesterday. One filter, no brushes. I'd say we have a pretty good idea as to how unprofessional things can look when a heavy amount of filters are used.

Man, I think I am a serious noob at photoshop. I can barely get anything that looks half decent. I am going to do a crap-load of tutorials right now and I will not post another picture until i have...

Attention Spazz: That Manchurian Candy piece is HAWT.

Too bad all of the backgrounds i do are just random brushes i took off deviantart mixed together using tutorials.

In the case of that display, I'd certainly agree, but if you know how to put filters to good use then they do wonders. And they are certainly not looked down upon in the "photoshop community." Learning to correctly use filters proves you have a lot more skill with the program than someone who downloads a brush-pack, applies it to the folder and then randomly clicks on the canvas. Sorry but you haven't convinced me that you have any idea of what you're doing.
