You can still have AIR run in-browser, but it still needs permission to run flash inside that browser, which all browsers are discontinuing at the end of the year.
The only thing AIR does, is make it so you can run flash outside of a web browser. Standalone flash players (projectors) work in a similar way, just that they grab their content from a website URL, instead of having it already downloaded, like AIR.
