thats because super metroid is a trash game just like every other metroid game
the combat is genuinely trash and the only aspect people can claim to enjoy is the "exploration"
of which there is basically none since the whole thing is effectively linear anyways, any exploration you do is gonna be about 5 steps in the wrong direction before a door you cant open or a jump you cant make blocks your path

i should probably also mention that the reason igavanias get a pass and metroid doesnt is because the combat is actually existent in those games, unlike metroid

Not gonna lie, this is the spiciest opinion in this thread.

I find actually the Prime series to be the best in terms of game design for that genre.

Not to sway because this is not what this thread is for, but it's more or less like the 2D ones in terms of exploring and combat.

You walk around a bit. Shoot things that shoot/punch/tOuCh??? back. Sometimes you solve puzzles. You walk to point A and then to point B only to probably go back to Point Z that you forgot about momentarily.

However, there's features within the game(s) that help you out on not getting super lost because, as you said, it's usually a set linear path with occasional branches that you can do first before going back (but will then probably would need to backtrack later).

I can see why someone wouldn't like these kinds of games, but as for me, I love 'em.

ahhhhhh u just reminded me of the crystal shards im gonna play through it again and get all the shards, god the double copy ability is the best thing ever i wish it'd come back, i loved how alot of the crystal shards required u to like, run thru the entire level with really bad powerups to get them sometimes, normally id just rock double fire and zooooom thru the level, the ability that is like a super long flame dash thing

ok unpopular opinion, every kirby game is a childs game and easy except kirby 64 and kirbys airride, and city trial in air ride is arguably the best mode in any game ever

edit: also apologies for double posting so much, i prefer splitting up my thoughts regarding different posts instead of combining it all in one, if its bad tho ill stop pls no ban

i love kirby 64: the crystal shards

don't forget, you have to get all the crystals before you can unlock dark star; by the way O^2 is the easiest boss in kirby 64 by FAR

also nightmare in dreamland (the remake of kirby's adventure) is pretty hard too IMO

I like those story/puzzle games where you can fuck up in like, the first 5 minutes but not know it until you're almost done the game and you have no way of winning it anymore.

I agree, for me tho my main goal behind getting used to it would be to play the randomizer for it, also theres a combo randomizer for super metroid and a link to the past where u can legit find LttP items in metroid, and metroid items in LttP etc, theres entrances that like, swap between game.. no idea how they managed to stick two completely unrelated games into one rom lol but its cool af

also when i play single player games literally my only focus is "going as fast as possible", so despite the combat being shit in metroid, i think the movement is quite nice, its fun to optimize it and try to be a zoomer *sips*

super metroid is definitely not really _the_ metroidvania to play if you want something modern. it's obvious some of the mechanics are outdated, or just flat out unfun to someone not having nostalgia for it.

that said, there are really nice metroidvanias like axiom verge and rabi-ribi, try those out instead

I find it absolutely disgusting how nintendo decided to ditch the wiimote instead of improving it. it just feels so amazing to play the prime games with it. see: modern VR

Maybe Metroid Prime 4 will make heavy uses with the Joycon, eh? I wouldn't know how, but it'd be cool to have point and shoot controls with the next one. I agree though that the Wiimote for the Prime games was an amazing feature and way to play them.

I didn't mind playing through the originals with the Gamecube Controller by no means, but just that extra freedom of shooting wherever I wanted on screen was something of a novelty that I dearly loved. If Metroid Prime 4 incorporates that again somehow, then I'll be happier than I already would be by just the fact Metroid Prime 4 exists.

I like metroidvanias I just really fucking hate metroid. (and environmental station alpha, that game manages to be less engaging than metroid)
