I think this 'directing' thing is more tied to how this particular player usually plays --- I can get the impression that his own general perception of himself is someone who "directs" others as town

The moment you start convincing the other towns, that's falling under directing.

we have gotten nothing resembling actual "reads" or "synthesis" from him this far
I have a distinct feeling I got from Xel when he was town last game, how he vocalized actual critical thought about other players and seemed invested in the outcome of the day phase
there is almost none of that here
