Re: which nerds are still in school
Honestly I really miss school. I want to go back to study medicine and cognitive neuroscience and hopefully one day help research new medicines. I graduated in 2013 in Graphic Design (Hi GundamDood) but I find my life is pretty hollow just doing what I believe is my hobby, first and last. I can do it for a living, but it poses no real challenge to me, and it can get really dry. I need stimulation.

never too late to school.
not saying that there aren't situations where finishing up, getting outta there, and moving on is the way to go. but no need to bring up someone's age, it dont matterComment

(I mean obviously it matters if you care about compounding interest and shit like that but let's be real, that's not really what most of us are gettin into, I assume at least)Comment

Ohhhh boy.... SRS and Vision documents lmfao brace yourself for a lot of paperwork !
How are you taught that class so far ? We had a school club doing domestic robots for elder people present us their needs and for the whole semester we built prototypes and a lot of documentation for them)
Also me. Starting masters class in IT (will be doing research on AI) this winter finally~ Never thought I'd actually make it so far lolComment

The plus side:
- You get to learn about user stories, AGILE methodologies in software development, technical documentation, and practice all of these with a team.
The down side:
- Free labor and you get no compensation for all your hard work.
You can probably tell I'm glad to no longer be a student, haha.Last edited by DossarLX ODI; 09-16-2017, 08:58 AM.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment

Re: which nerds are still in school
It's early to say, but it's similar in style: we'll be working on a project for a client, but we have no idea what the project actually entails yet. Thus far, it's mostly just standard lectures then (we're only two lectures in yet), essentially discussing the software development process and UML.Ohhhh boy.... SRS and Vision documents lmfao brace yourself for a lot of paperwork !

The client project likely won't be covered until next semester, too; 3352 has two strands, us Software Engineering students, and Computer Engineering students. Next semester, in (I think) 3351 it's just software engineering, and that's where the bulk of the client project takes place. As such, the prof doesn't really want to cater significant time to only half of the class as of now.
For us, the top three teams of 5 get $5000 per team. So it's not that bad!,,

Re: which nerds are still in school
i'm 27 and this is my 2nd year in university. I spent 8 years wasting my time in a field I didn't like. Never too late my dudes.
oh i meant they're the hardest in the degree, and they're all core required courses.is that "make or break" mainly as in, these are hard make sure you pass these?
if that was more "this is the core of what you learn" instead, assembly and operating systems for a pure CS degree sounds weird. granted, I'm kinda talking out of my ass here, but idk.
(also, glad to hear you're doing well and enjoying it dude!)
in summer 2019 I'm doing a community outreach project class (developing software for a non-profit) and it's "free labor" but at least it's for a charitable cause so it counts as a course credit, volunteer work, and work experience all in one.
how triggered r u dossar im doin free workLast edited by kommisar; 09-16-2017, 12:26 PM.

Re: which nerds are still in school
Not at all, you voluntarily decided to do that and it seems to be working out well for you. I actually lose money myself being a GM on this site (keeping my site up).
It was more of a general statement for courses that require a project and then the university has full access to your work. As a student, you're both losing money (tuition costs and all that stuff) and doing free labor. In a job, you're earning.
What is also important to consider is that I'm from the U.S. so Canada might be a bit different with respect to university cost.Last edited by DossarLX ODI; 09-16-2017, 02:01 PM.Originally posted by hi19hi19oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a fileComment
