Head over to the FFR Batch Forum for all the details on how you can get your file into the game. The Artist Permissions forum section will help you find out if FFR has permission to use the song your file goes with.
just remember: objectivity doesn't exist
neither does pr
the only objectivity is the guidelines i set based on my subjectivity
it's a guideline established from over a decade of veterans playing. it's not an objective standard by any means, but is a way we've enjoyed making and playing files for a long time. nobody is forced to agree with it, but the expert players in general have enjoyed this type of file, despite us being a minority of overall sm players.
PR does exist in the sense that there is a sense of "playing" a song if the scale is relevant to the notes being played. i don't hit b#2 on a piano higher up than c#3.

that's about all I'm gonna say about it
Fair enough.
I do though believe that Stepmania should be moving forward, not back. The assertion that veterans enjoy a certain type of file is a biased one. I am a veteran of over a decade, and I know others as well who are enjoying the dump files currently being made more than any other file-type of earlier years.
I think you should take a look at some of the technical dumps that are being made by artists like xay and porky pink--I could even send you some I could make a case for. Dumps are not out of sync throw-aways anymore. (not saying you hold this opinion) but I know people who do, and it just isn't correct.
I'm not against another ODI---but I'd like to see a new imagining where technical dumps are included.
Some songs beg for more emotional depth than what can be given with a completely technical approach. As soon as "stepmania purists" can understand this, we can start having new, quality packs for this game.
If you are putting together a book of poetry, do you want every poem to be of the same form?
no. all the poems should be good, and should add to the flavor of the collection. (THIS SHOULD NOT BE BASED OFF SONG CHOICE ALONE)
I'm not telling you what to do with your pack,
but if you are going to name it STEPMANIA 2017*****************
Does dump just mean any file with notes that don't correspond to the notes of the music? I've never really been that clear on what it refers to exactly.
lofty rhino brings up a good point though, but I think kommi isn't trying to cater to players directly which is why I think your book of poetry metaphor is kind of flawed. It depends on the purpose of the book, not all works are made for the purpose of sales, so to speak.
In any case I have some time over the winter break so I may try to send something
U gotta collab with me on an xmod file for my mini pack tho for reel
absolutely

This isn't really catering to "players" if you mean the general mass of players. I'm also not going to call it stepmania pack 2017 lmao it's just a dump name placeholder.
You could call it a sort of nostalgic pack adhering to values that are outdated, that's fine. This pack is aimed at the people who still don't mind popping sm up once in a while that grew up playing the types of files we used to do, and often still enjoy. I still think battle with saruin is one of the best files of all time, but a lot of people today would probably call it boring.
"dumps" as you call them isn't what we used to call dumps. midare files wouldn't compare I don't think. People have gotten stupid good at the game and consistently push the boundaries of difficulty. They're just not what I'm looking for atm, even if they're technically accurate or cater to the majority of expert players on here.
It's perhaps more of a pack aimed at simfile artists. The technical aspects of files we've perfected over the years is admired for its structure and visual impact. You can accuse it of being a "purist" pack but conforming to today's standards of dump files is no different. A lot of what we did in our simfiles grew up side by side with ITG simfile artists (often doing both kb and pad) and it was surprisingly inclusive of different styles of stepping.

I play Battle with Saruin all the fuckin' time, that's such a well made file. Did we ever find out if Amy was Kil or not? I forget lmfao
also fuck whatever "standard" there is for stepfiles now. you made a good point, making files to be admired for their structure and visual impact. those are two of the most paramount qualities to a stepfile, and always should be imo. The line between difficulty and technicality are blurred nowadays, but that doesn't mean one should be given more importance than the other. das my 2 cents
