Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles

I don't think anyone is really tearing the fuck out of you as long as you're willing to learn from the very poor reception of whatever it is that you sent in; your standing relative to this situation is what you make of it really

that being said - based on the reception of your submission according to what people are saying here, it is pretty evident that your perception of dump charting is indeed fundamentally flawed

there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition characterized by low-quality patterns set to abrasive wall noise garbage for w/e reason

there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition bereft of any coherent patterning structure whatsoever

and thus consequently, and most importantly of all,
there is no rule stating that dump files are by definition bereft of any qualitative value whatsoever

as a matter of fact this misconception is something that people such as mina, lofty, scintill and skwid have been actively challenging through very respectable efforts in the past few years if not more than that

people choose to play files based on what it feels like to experience them as a player executing the patterns; if your file holds no value in that respect, then it is automatically of no value to anyone else regardless of whatever infantile amusement you may derive from ironically putting down shitty patterns to wall noise under ddream or w/e - the point I'm trying to get across is that even though dump files differ from more conventional ones in regards to how certain patterns are placed relative to certain sounds, this principle remains very much in effect nonetheless

your file holds no qualitative value whatsoever, and the fact that you have clearly disregarded that factor just comes to show how utterly futile your current stance will remain when aspiring to amount to anything in that figurative line of work unless you are willing to change it - this is further reinforced by lofty specifically requesting that people send in their best stuff

if you do sincerely wish to learn from the error of your ways, lofty's 3rd pack and mina's 4th pack are good places to start... or you could just wait till this pack gets released as I do find the currently-approved material within it to be quite respectable even as it stands for now

notable files worth checking out would be addicted to love, desenchantee, desire of ages, prototype, scarlatti 2.0, and last but most certainly not least the poet and the pendulum - scary halloween show (yolomania 3) is also a very solid example worth looking at

if not... then suit yourself I guess, just don't be surprised anymore at how people are going to take it

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles

look, i wouldn't have sent a file if it was devoid of effort. the notes in the file are not arbitrary. it's cool if ya'll don't like the file, but don't write it off as unplayable or bereft of value.

i feel like you guys are disrespected by me trying to make a dump file? if that's the case, my bad! just drop it and i'll leave dumps alone.. forgive and forget ok? sheesh

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles

Your error was more one of "song" choice than anything else.

All anyone is pointing out is that dump files can be songs that are enjoyable and charts that are fun.

I'll say this again, because it seems as though you missed it: I urge you to chart something musical and send it in. We will both be glad to review it.

Re: Lofty Megapack 6 - The Invocation Pentafiles

Aku no Hana (windmill) - This is kind of like crowdpleaser only if the trills were at the end and the file was less interesting prior to it and it went to anime. I recognize this lends itself to your general style however I find it a frustrating exaggeration of it.
                                48th trillz

And the Vulture Beholds (kabopius) - Very eveningeqsue, aside from the runningmen which feel great. File tends to be slightly right hand biased and some of the tighter 24th patterns might be better off loosened up but it's good as-is.
                                kbro

Chokoreito (porousdong) - There's some pretty neat stuff in here. There's also some pretty unplayable garbage, but I'll work with you to shape it up.
                                accepted pending major revision

Dat $tick (skwalamari) - Good song choice for broken 64th burst stream. Intro needs to be cut but I can do that. Non 64th parts of the file could use another detail pass if you want.
rap song that isn't by bouncy j

Pen Pineapple Apple Pen (perkyplump) - Great stuff. You aren't afraid to use patterns that most people would consider to be annoying or obnoxious and good enough to make them play well. Only comment is that the ending jack is a touch aggressive.
                                limeapple

Really Long Title (treehill) - I have the same general reservations about this file that I did aku no hana. The difficulty spike at the end is so high that the file is either boring for a minute and then interesting for about 10 seconds, or playable for a minute and then rage inducing. Looking at it in the editor I thought it might make an o.k. bursty accuracy file but it just doesn't play that way in actuality.
plus the title is really long how do i wordplay off that

Scapegoat Boy (soiltill) - A little long but it's a nice jack file. Jacks are left hand biased however not only is it musically justified it's musically demanded. Personally I feel like you could have taken more (many mores) liberties with the chorus and sculpted some more interesting stuff into the slower areas. The solo, as short as it is, is still great to play through. As it stands it does adhere to your more technical style, though I think it would benefit from getting a stab of scary halloween show.
                                up2um8

Vitamin B (saucykrill) - I'm going to be honest not only would I have minded accepting this but I stepped telephone shopping and nearly submitted it myself however neon chewed my ass out over it and now I'm rejecting this out of spite.
i mean its really rejected because it's an 11 second file with 80 notes 60 of which are in a less than 2 second burst and the easier difficulties don't exactly completely salvage it

Your 10% (palpablepulp) - I haven't had a chance to play this yet but I've gone over it in the editor and it's already been greenlit by neon. Great file, a+ construction, excellent attention to detail. I'm worried that some of the denser 32nd patterns might be unreasonably difficult but if they are I'll let you know. There's a clear grace note at 6.063 which you (un)intentionally? omitted despite putting an arrow to one a couple seconds later. The slow section after the halfway mark could use some slowdownbuildupclimax theory and I wouldn't mind seeing some extra layering towards the end of it before the last quarter of the song.
                                u are good at this
