Ddr machines aren't that extinct here, especially with the DDR A location test here (and some possible good news in the future) but pump machines definitely are. For context, there's about 250 known DDR machines in the UK (at least according to Ziv) but only about 5 known PIU machines. At least every arcade here will have a euromix 1 or 2 because they're cheap and easy to replace if they break down, where as with pump it isn't quite so easy, probably due to lack of knowledge and price.

Despite the large amount of DDR machines here though, I'd say that at only 1/3 of them are in good condition, because most of the time arcade operators will only fix them if it's broken, not if the pads are a bit rubbish. Also if you want any mix newer then supernova then good luck, bar the DDR A cab we have here, almost all newer cabs i've played were terrible. Either crappy DDR X's with rubbish pads, or DDR X2's with sync issues.

As with anything else, if a DDR machine exists, then it exists. Even if it stops working, it will continue to exist until it either decays back to its basic components of matter or someone comes along and deliberately takes it apart and turn its components into something else, thus only by definition does it become quote-unquote "extinct," which is the state of not existing anymore in any given timeline or frame of time. This applies to everything, and once something goes extinct by some means or another, another someone or something will take its place, and through the means of someone or something, that someone or something will also go extinct either by self-destruction or an outside force that could not be stopped, thus creating a continuous cycle that loops on and on throughout eternity until the end of time. Does that answer your question or do I need to elaborate further?

I admire your valor entering a discussion and inserting your two sense. But the reality of your perception of the term "extinct" is your personal opinion. That may be the way you percieve extinct, but if you want to be technical with a technician, so be it.

Dictionary definition:
Extinct (Adjective)

1. No longer in existence; that has ended or died out
2. No longer in use; obsolete
3. Extenguished, quenched, not burning
4. Having ceased eruption; no longer active

Now if you notice it has several definitions. And several of those can actually be interpreted by the way I stated my question.

When you brought up the fact that it would still exist because of its "components", I would like to point out that you supported my case.
When humans die, our organs die with it. Now if we're in the ground then they shall decompose with our body and bones. I would view a DDR machine in the same light. If you broke it down to its "components" it is no longer a whole, therefore you can't call it a DDR machine. In my question, I treated a DDR machine as a reference to a species. If they are no longer present OR obsolete, then that would define it as extinct. It doesn't exist anymore if it is broken down into pieces because it's integrity is compromised. You said it yourself, their components. And if those components are used for a different machine then they are now part of a another system BUT they are not part of the original DDR Machine therefore you cant call pieces a whole of something.
That's like calling our hearts our entire body. A heart is a component. And if somebody has a heart transplant then they would have a different component in their body. If you had a heart transplant, would you call yourself by the name of the person you recieved the heart from? A normal person wouldn't because you are still yourself with a different "component" or organ. You are your own series. And so is a DDR machine. Wether something takes it place or they are not around anymore, they become extinct if the original series or species are not present.

I rest my case. But please feel free to take another swing ULTIMEGA.

Winrar: I agree with that statement. It would increase the DDR culture and in return keep the concept relevant.

ItsOnlyDan0: Hmmmmm interesting...its always nice to hear a foriegn perspective. Im glad to hear DDR has a platform worldwide. That means their is hope it will survive new technology and trending fads. It's one of the best games in history. I have faith it will continue to live on after our generation had past. Listening to everyone else's perspective has brought me great faith.

Just wonderin boys - has there ever been a 4key arcade game? Like I'm talkin some beatmania tier stuff with 4 keys instead of 8 or 5 or 7 or w/e, just some good old fashioned 4k arrow tapping skill in the arcade
