It's possible that once people start getting better gear that damage will scale faster than hp and things will be fine. People also need these honor levels to get the special honor traits.

Been doing some battlegrounds as prot pala and in BGs it's pretty fun. The heal is still abysmally low but damage output and damage reduction are much better than in world pvp. Flag carrying like a boss.

With a bunch more gear I am starting to do an adequate amount of damage. They said gear doesn't matter, but it matters as much as ever.

I feel so weak as arcane. Im 842 and while yes I can easily break 200k on mythic bosses it just feels so inadequate when compared to fire and other classes =[

can anybody point me to the right direction for a first time player who wants to reach level 20 in a relaxing manner?

i kind of want to try it out up to level 20 so i can get my hearthstone hero unlocked (yes, you can call me a loser for playing hearthstone)

what job should i pick, and should i just follow a main storyline if there even is one?

Arcane and Frost imo are weak and were hit hard/don't have a good scale until higher ilvl

Fire is the way to go though, really really good right now and they kind of fixed Combustion so no worries there.

Up to level 20 it's all pretty much personal choice. Take whatever race, class, spec you feel would fit you best. Do follow the story. It leads to many good items and quest chains for lots of xp.

Arcane requires a very demanding build that requires spamming Nethertempest to build quickening stacks, this is why a lot of people don't see very high comparative numbers when playing against something like a fire mage. It's a lot like shadow priest where as the fight goes on, you do more damage. Obviously this is a problem in mythic dungeons, but come raids once you hit 50-60 quickening stacks (+100%-120% haste) you'll see a lot more come out of the spec.

That being said, a lot of people are expecting fire nerfs within a week or two of raids being out, myself included. I would suggest if you intend on raiding to get each weapon to 13 points (pretty easy to hit) and then wait for nerfs.

If you don't intend to raid, I would suggest playing whichever you enjoy, especially since fire is only 10-15% better than arcane iirc.

Also since that was my first post, I guess I'll post my characters or something

I currently have a 110 849 Mage that I'll be raiding on Tuesday/Wednesday, and a 110 845 WW/MW monk that I'll be raiding on Friday/Saturday. I first starting raiding towards the end of cataclysm when I first started playing the game. I leveled a Warrior to 55 and immediately swapped to DK, and continued into MoP as a warrior. I didn't start actually raiding somewhat seriously until ToT, where I cleared up to and including heroic Ra-Den, and following with a full heroic/mythic clear of SoO on multiple characters. I didn't raid much in WoD until HFC, where I full cleared mythic as well on my mage, and plan to do the same this tier(hopefully )

Up to ilvl 845 with mostly pvp gear. Trying to have 100% pvp gear for consistency simply because stats don't even matter anymore. Also honor level 56 or something if you add the prestige levels.

Still very much hate that in one expansion we hit MoP numbers which is fucking stupid seeing how we crunched every number in the game to avoid it and ultimately said "nah fuck that".

It's not that they're abandoning the number crunch, this was bound to happen. The reason that they rise so much is so that people feel advancement in their character progression, and it also splits up the expansions. If we just went from doing 100k to 150k people would probably be pretty pissed. At the same time, they're just numbers, it's not like they matter anyways provided it scales correctly.
