Watched the rayman run and found out that apparently the game is almost impossible to complete on ps1 because there's two spots where you have to do a frame perfect jump.
(although the speedrun had a technique which meant it wasn't a problem)
As if the game wasn't hard enough! Some of the cage spots seemed really awful as well, especially ones that were right at the end of screens. The runner said the game was more unfair than hard, which I totally agree with.

A little backstory, when I was living with my Aunt and Uncle, my cousin had his first model PS1 hooked up and he had two games: Rayman and Vandal Hearts.
Vandal Hearts is a separate topic (but <3 this game) and Rayman easily slid into one of my top overall favorite games. I'm assuming the parts you watched were Pencil Penthalon (iirc the name) which was always harder than the last level. There are two specific jumps where you have to frame perfect them like you said, one on an oiled surface and you have to slide, jump, slide, jump, slide, jump and it was extremely hard because they all were frame perfect jumps, and then the other I forget but yes, 100% this post.
When you got past the first dozen levels it started getting tough but the end 3-5 levels were monstrous and indeed nearly impossible to complete unless you sank a good 5 hours into Pencil Penthalon in itself haha.
Speaking of blueglass, heard the Ecco run that happened while I was at work had amazing commentary (and he was on the couch).
So... idk
Like 80% of the run had good commentary, and then blueglass realized that his mic was on and then it went downhill really quickly. It's still worth a watch though.
So... it's the final day and the ending lineup seems really promising. Metroid race is definitely going to be hype with a bunch of D e e R F o r C e at the end.
TAS block coming up. Wonder what crazy shenanigans they're bringing this time. I always get hyped for the TAS block.

All in all I would say that Charu not only won this game, his play made me reconsider how I play it.
Having tried to run SM for awhile and struggling with most of the tricks, Zoast just blows my mind. His run looked like TAS. I can't believe how fucking casually he puts up a time only a minute off WR while saving the animals. If he hadn't missed metroid skip...it might have been WR. I wonder how mad people would have been had he not saved the animals to get WR? lmao. Straevaras is a really good runner but Zoast made him look so fucking terrible.
Man, that failed metroid skip was so heartbreaking. I really do wonder if he would've skipped the animals for a WR though...Zoast is a good sport and might have just done it anyways.
All this speedrunning is making me want to get back into it again. Been so long since I've tried for the sub hour on Super Metroid. Might start that up again, but for now I'm looking into speedrunning The Lost World for PS1. I was initially surprised nobody had done it yet, but now that I started to try I kinda see why...the game is hard as fuck XD
