There have been a lot of right-wing extremists around here lately, for some reason.

I've been unfair, though. It's not all bad. I was particularly disgusted by some news when I made the thread, but that was probably silly.

Well, thats true.
Nothing works here in brazil, we have the best hospital (SUS) by what it gives you(surgery free, everything free you dont need to pay) it should be the best, but governament doesnt invests in health, and thats one of the problems here.
+100% of curruption, some politics are even trying to displace
a political leader because he is whos leading a lawsuit against corruption.

I have heard a LOT of people online the game Worms Armageddon, who are from brazil, that treat me like a celebrity when they see that I'm canadian, and tell me how they wish they could move there someday.

It seems to be a bigger issue than I would've otherwise realized, 8/10 brazil players have complained in some way during a game lol

Do you have to pay to play that game? I used to play the demo at my grandparents' house and I had so much fun.

this is actually probably a really good seed for a thread most people don't realize how shit non-Western countries are and i don't know what it's like to live in Brazil and i'm really interested

all i've ever heard about it are socialism jokes, kids selling coca cola on the street, and how it's great to vacation in as a rich westerner

I think this is very true. When it comes to many issues, it comes down to making a decision about something that involves some kind of trade-off; sometimes you have to give up more of something to get more of something else. For example, "let's raise the minimum wage!" seems like an easy solution to getting rid of poverty. However, from basic economics, in a perfectly competitive market, raising the minimum wage leads to an increase in unemployment, a side effect which is undesirable.* However, some would argue that we need minimum wage in some form to protect our low-skilled workers (in terms of elasticity, if people are desperate for work, they would work for ridiculously low, non-respectable amounts because they need to survive). Thus, what it comes down to is making the trade-off between unemployment and minimum wage and no matter what decision is made, someone is going to be unhappy.

I know we don't live in a perfectly competitive market and that there are studies that claim that a small increase in minimum wage wouldn't increase unemployment by significant amounts. However, overall, increases in minimum wage lead to increases to unemployment (like no one is going to hire someone to flip burgers for $1,000,000/hr).

sorry to hear about a lot of the unrest in BR atm. iirc arent the politicians doing everything in their power to paint Brazil as a tourist attraction for the world cup and neglecting to acknowledge major economic problems right?
