Firefox is free. All you do is download it. Install it. Then, click on it, a pop-up will come up asking if you want to make this default browser, click yes. Then, import any of your mom's bookmarks, and re-name it Internet Explorer, and change the icon, she'll never know.

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about. Everything from Norton is known for being the worst (at least among the people that actually know anything about the subject).

Anyway, here's a breakdown of each one:

Spybot: Search and Destroy- Scans predetermined locations where spyware is known to hide. Probably the weakest popular spyware app.

Ad-Aware- Scans every file on your computer for signatures. I like this one, it's my 2nd favorite.

XoftSpy- Costs money, but is an extremely effective system folder scanner. 3rd favorite.

Microsoft AntiSpyware- Godly. Scans everything. This includes memory processes, every file and folder, and the entire registry. The removal procedures are incredibly effective; most programs only delete the file. 99% of spyware regenerates itself, and this knows it. It terminates the processes, checks for additional integration, etcetcetc. I love it, it's my favorite.

      ---------------

Be sure to "buy" Registry Mechanic, as well. Run one or more of these removal apps in safe mode, then immediately run Registry Mechanic to clean up any registry entries that regenerate their files. Since the initial file is gone after the removal, and it can't regenerate itself in Safe Mode, the registry mechanic determines that the entry is useless and cleans it. Reboot, and you're all good!

THIS TOOK ME FOREVER TO WRITE. It had better fix your problem.

Lol. I hope it does. I already have Registry Mechanic and will try that tomorrow since I want to wait until my mom is out of the house before downloading anything. I tried using Microsoft's Anti-Spyware, but the Adaware/Spyware just kept regenerating. Since I am poor at computers how would I go about running my computer in safe mode?

Reboot your computer, and keep pressing F8 once the first things appear on the screen. When it says "What would you like to do?" or w/e select Safe Mode at the top. Make sure you run it in safe mode if it keeps regenerating. Don't forget to run registry cleaner after scan and before exiting Safe Mode.

Just out of curiosity Tnyhwk, explain to me in detail what microsoft AntiSpyware scans that XoftSpy does not? Because I used Xoftspy to get rid of all the crud that Microsoft AntiSpyware couldn't. And yes, Xoftspy scans memory processes, all files and folders, the registry, etc..etc..
Not bashing on it but I just don't think your explanations really gave each program a fair shake.

                  Cheers,

Can you guys give a bit of info about Spyware Doctor? I mean if you know anything about it. I got it and when I ran the search it found 206 more items, thats 204 more items than AVG and Nortan found (Yes I know Nortan sucks).

I mean maybe like a bit of info so I know if its actually worth keeping since we are on the subject.

XoftSpy, Firefox, and Microsoft Antispyware should be enough for you.

                        And leaving already? :P

Also an error pops up every so often with the popups saying that there is something wrong with the internet.
I would just like to point out to you that this is probably your problem. What do you do when these error messages pop up?
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

XoftSpy does not scan all files and folders. Not only does it scan in ~5 minutes while Antispyware takes 30, I have watched the process and it has never touched Documents and Settings. I don't think it scans active processes either.

EDIT: Just ran, and it only scans a few Program Files folders and the Cookies folder. It does not scan memory processes.

When did AVG become a spyware scanner? o_O

I didn't include Spyware Doctor because every other app does as good of a job, and this costs money. The built-in firewall pales in comparison to Microsoft's, as well.

Download and install Firefox and MS AntiSpyware, use them for 10 minutes, sit back, and think "WTF was I doing surfing the net without these tools?"
