Did I ever say it's ok to act on pedophilic tendencies? Pretty sure nobody in this thread condones that, but pedophilic thoughts (read: NOT pedophilic acts) are something that someone doesn't choose to have. They just have them. You're judging all pedophiles based on actions they might not even ever commit. If anything, they need psychiatric help, not 10+ years of torture in jail (because they sure don't take kindly to those kind of folks in there).

This thread is an excellent example of the enormous ignorance people have when it comes to pedophiles. I imagine being a pedophile on itself to be a huge burden, and in fact immensely depressing; you cannot help but feel a sexual attraction, but everyone including yourself (I'd hope) knows that you cannot act on it because a child cannot give consent, and that even the thought, while not illegal on itself, can make you feel guilty and filthy.

There was a time when I was confused about some things and was really scared that I was going to turn out to be a pedophile. Fortunately I am now pretty sure that is not the case. The point here is that being a pedophile should not be inherently wrong, simply because it is out of control of the person in question. However, a pedophile should know that it is morally wrong to actually act upon his desires and harm a child. Any pedophile who ignores this or doesn't care about this is a filthy asshole that should be incarcerated.

If I were a pedophile and were concerned that maybe one day I wouldn't be able to control myself, then I would want to go to some psychiatrist or organisation and ask for help. Unfortunately, there's such a stigma on being a pedophile that they are too afraid to do this -- with all the consequences. I think there should be some instance that offers help to pedophiles to try and make them manage their feelings to make sure they will not act upon them. Much like things such as anger management.

I hoped it wouldn't be needed to stress again that "being" a pedophile is something completely different than "acting" upon your pedophilia. Unfortunately, the reading skills of some FFR members doesn't seem that well developed.

pedophiles that abuse children = wrong as fuck and should be put to jail for a long time
pedophiles that never give in to their desires and live a completely normal life = should not be treated as a child abuser

Saying all pedophiles are wrong/illegal/etc. is like saying being black is wrong, because a portion of them steals bicycles. Come on. I'm fairly sure the actual majority of pedophiles never act upon their feelings because they know it would be wrong to do.
