based on what reuben said, where would they get their concept of male or female, and how would they even be able to consider that they might need reassignment?

maybe everyone alive today would cause an increase in reassignment, because gender roles do exist (and people have their notions). but within a few generations, wouldn't it drop?

Because he didn't say anything about the concept of gender vanishing. He said 'what if gender norms and roles didn't exist' That is, if we didn't classify some things as being feminine and some as being masculine. If we didn't treat firefighting as a Man's job, and secretary as a woman's, etc etc.

That still won't change gender dysmorphia at all, I don't think. This is a fundamental intrinsic, not just a desire to want to be feminine so they want to not have a penis.

I know plenty of trans people who have no intention of sexual reassignment surgery, for various reasons, and plenty who do. It's pretty much never about wanting to not be judged for being a 'woman who wants to do man things' and everything about 'my body is WRONG and I want to fix it"

Pretty much. You look in the mirror and it's like "asdfjlasdjflsadf I just want to change everything."

Little stuff like "why are my shoulders so broad", "fat, please go to my hips/butt instead of my stomach", "fuck I'm like 8 inches too tall", "go away, facial hair. I don't want you", "WHY IS MY ADAM'S APPLE SO LARGE"

Then there is the added stress of knowing that you may not be remotely satisfied with your future results if you decide to transition.
