    running the shanghai marathon soon~

to echo prawnskunk, running is a very unique activity in that you always improve so long as you just do it. if you just get up today and decide to run 3 times a week you'll get faster, can run longer, etc. for those starting with times of 29, 25, so on for the 5k, those are super respectable! just think about where those can go with some practice!

@snowcrafta, that first mile is awesome! but exerting so much early on may have slowed down your overall pacing

The best 5k I ever ran was 19:38 back in highschool.

I always preferred sprinting to long distance running.

First year doing cross country. Best 5k was 20:31. I expect to get mid-18's next year considering I'll be doing distance running for both regular and winter track.

Congrats on your first 5k, DotKritic!

I like sprinting early on and falling into my pace as I slow down, helps build endurance off the bat I've felt

on a non-race run, try doing your sprint mile for the second mile, and building up slowly to it in your first mile. keeps you pushing in your first mile, and then you have the expectation of pushing a little harder the second mile. after that, you only have one mile left (so why not just give what you got?)

5k was our warm up when I was in biathlon.

Nowadays I don't run, period. Grats on your 5k though because you're putting out more effort than the majority of the North American population.

I run an 8 minute mile for long distance could probably run a 5-6 minute mile if I just ran a mile and no more.

I was thinking about walking shortly after mile 1, but just kept going. I gradually eased up on my running as the race went on.

I got into a 1/2 mile into the race then went "Ahh damn!"

Yeah... It would be nice to see more people run. Even if it's just 1 mile, it's still something.

I'll be back in the gym tomorrow night gearing up for my next 5K in January.

Re: Ran my first 5K this morning

Personally I always disliked running, partially because my leg coordination is really weird, and also because if you run, and especially in a thing such as a race, you don't really pick up anything of the nature around you that you run past. It's even worse when you run on an actual running track or whatnot. Whenever I do some sort of physical excercise (usually in the form of walking, jogging or cycling) I like to just keep looking all around me, makes me feel so much at ease.

Then again, I'm really not a sports person.

I can totally imagine how awesome it must feel to finish such a thing with what I assume to be a nice time, though! Congrats! ^^
