While I'm not a fan of divisional splitting, I agree with this. Think about a mid-high D6 player who might be pushed into a 7th division and finishes in 16/32 of that division.

Think of that same player being put in D6A out of D6B and finishing in the bottom 50% of D6A? They automatically outclass their lower division by being put in the higher flight, which means they're doing better than at least 50% (more than likely higher, since a higher flight likely won't split evenly) of their competitors already (theoretically, as they're facing tougher opponents), plus they finished better than half of the A-flight as well. Yes, it's not much of a difference in terms of overall people beaten, but it sounds more like an accomplishment.

Also, a very important point must be made here:
also everyone saying that d6 has the widest range in skill is forgetting that, in all technicality, d1 ranges from people who can't pass super mario to *insert arbitrary cutoff here*
in all honesty, this is my defense for never wanting a divisional split.

What matters isn't the gap, but how easy it is to bridge the gap. In the span of a competition you can get good enough to top D1 even starting from nothing, whereas if you get placed at the bottom of D6, that's basically where you're finishing.

It applies to D5 too. I'm pretty sure my scores are below the D5 cut, but if I got placed there, in no way would it be possible to finish top 8, although the mobility is still higher than D6.

I have been in two officials (4 and 6) and both times got pwned in round 3. I plan to break that tradition this time (and not by getting pwned in rounds 1 or 2).

I'm going to rehash my random thought from when Sambista stabbed my heart with a carving knife.

Every time there's been a tourney this big, the winners of each lower division end up getting scores in the later rounds that make players that were initially put higher than them go "what the hell." If YoshL going full furry fury on Kirby Music with an SDG FC to take home D4's ultimate prize is any indication, the winners are always those with the best combination of skillboosts, empty schedules and sheer good fortune.

It's not about where you start. It's about hitting your stride at the right time. Part of this involves being a borderline case and getting bumped down, another part is having charts that play to your strengths and target your rivals' weaknesses, and there's certainly a fluke-run element present as always. The winners aren't the best players, but the ones that have the best tournament.

That being said, quit your bitching and try rising to the challenge for once. You just might surprise yourself.

Everyone wants to win, but the chances of winning without a mid-tourny skill boost AND a upper-divisional placement are very low. In the lower divisions, people may be placed lower because they have never really tried that hard before, so it never showed in the ranks. I could give examples, but I wont. Occasionally you hear this sentiment around -

The truth is, some people play the song HUNDREDS of times and still don't make it near the top of the pack. Should they complain? I don't believe so. It would be stupid and pathetic to think that the division lines should favor yourself above the rest of the field. It's just the way the cookie crumbles. Your best effort doesn't always make the cut. Deal with it, that's life.

On a more enthusiastic note, good luck in the tourny everyone!

that absolutely should be the case. otherwise, we might as well compare levelranks and forgo the tournament altogether.

I enjoyed the last one but this one will be a huge disappointment. My computer is still scrambled so the only place to play in the tourney is my old laptop at work, which gives random misses during jacks and generally lags a bit to give me not the greatest of PA. Basically, if any round comes down to needing a perfect score then I'm out

Choofers, if participating AND not D6, is going to be dethroned.
