Re: Songs of the Week (May 11, 2012)
I totally agree with this.FotBB v2 absolutely doesn't do the song justice. I actually prefer the mp3 from the first one, and as far as the steps go, they totally don't fit how FotBB should be - the whole point of the song is the fast stream, so to just step some foreground notes feels totally wrong to me. If you ask me, this song really needs a v3, with synced, properly patterned stream or even jumpstream.
But be careful what you wish for
Yes this is Arch0wl's mp3
EDIT- After actually playing the 20 seconds I have roughly worked out this is turning out really fun... lmfao I might actually finish this and submit it 0_oLast edited by hi19hi19; 05-12-2012, 04:33 PM.Comment

Well if posts in this thread are the only reason you REALLY don't need to take them serious. If you see problems in the file/song itself and really want it to be removed then we will.Comment

Yo Silvuh, I actually do like most of your files but that FOTBB felt so empty to me that I literally could believe if someone told me you stepped it as a skeleton and then decided you didn't feel like filling parts in later on and just sent it as was.
I don't mean any disrespect and I'm not going to whine about the file, as I understand it was meant to be an easier one.
I think the main reason you're receiving so much negative feedback is because everyone was expecting a hard, accurately-stepped file similar to the song that is already in-game.
Try not to let the feedback get to you, haters gonna hate.
edit: also, don't mind it staying as long as the judge team/administration would be cool with a v3Last edited by justin_ator; 05-12-2012, 09:28 PM.

Just played FOTBBv2 just to see the commotion... Although understepped, it is a great file for beginners/novice players. If Passage D [Light] isn't receiving this much dislike, I can't see why FOTBBv2 shouldn't either.
There are going to be some songs that are intentionally understepped simply for the beginner/novice population of FFR. No need to be so against the file.Comment

oh yeah, I wanted to drop in - I really liked FotBB v2, haha. It was great for a 7, the little blips of 16ths kept me on my toes.
Plasmatextor was fun, lost the AAA at 2450 first run, oops <_<;
Coffin was tricky, a few 16th jumps with jacks connecting some 32nd bursts, but nothing too unbearable.
UMAD? was great overall, my favorite of the week. Nice job, Mario.Comment

As the guy who stepped Passage D [Light] I actually see a lot of difference here. In FotBB, the main focus of the song is the infamously fast foreground melody, and the other part of the track is only really there to emphasize that melody. So when you have a chart that just steps the emphasis stuff, it feels empty and unnatural. On the other hand, Passage D is actually a slower, more relaxed-feeling song, and to me it feels more like there is a slow melody with fast and intricate DnB stuff added on top. The melody can stand on its own, and because of the relaxed feel of the song it doesn't feel wrong to just play the melody at its natural speed. In fact, I kinda find the file to be like playing the piano part in a duet, next to a drum virtuoso.
tl;dr: The part Silvuh stepped in FotBB v2 accentuates the main melody and doesn't really make sense without it; the part I stepped in Passage D [Light] is the main melody, and is a natural part of the song despite the super complex drum layered on top of it.Best AAA: Policy In The Sky [Oni] (81)
Best SDG: PANTS (86)
Best FC: Future Invasion (93)Comment

Lol maybe I should just give up stepping.
Thank you for that response. I can now see why people aren't too happy about it.
