People enjoy blowing things out of proportion- either this is falsely reported, or a bunch of senators are going to be impeached. While US politicians are clearly pretty stupid, I still have enough faith in the system to think that we're not at the point of total anarchy yet.

by "anarchy" i think you meant "police state." if not, get out.

It's pretty much entirely a budget and project appropriations bill identical in style and content to the same bill for 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and so on back.

i sure hope the idea that the government has been passing laws like a skipping broken record isn't your way of offering reassurance...

Which means, at worst, that during something actually defined as military hostilities, there's the -possibility- of a legal backing for the military choosing to detain you there instead of in any of the many military prisons located inside the US. Oh dear, the world is ending.

because leaving "military hostilities" up to a bunch of gun-toting jarheads to define is just the greatest idea. what makes it even better is that they're broken to follow any odd order that comes down the hierarchy!

It's a bloated bill, yes. I have to agree with Devonin.

But it does further outline the steps our Government is taking to crack down on its own citizens. U.S. citizens may have been exempt, but this feels like a precursor of something more broad to me. I dunno, maybe I'm going all doom-and-gloom but there have been some interesting things running through the branches that have been nothing short of eye opening. On an everyday, personal basis, my life isn't really impacted because I'm an honest, hardworking citizen who makes his own keep. I have no reason to protest, no reason to fret. But even so, I'm just noticing our Government is slowly creeping deeper into our lives. It's left me with cause to be directly concerned about the coming years of this country.

It wouldn't be so bad if things weren't happening at vein bursting speeds. Bills getting passed left and right. Money getting spread out faster than we can generate it. Non-citizen rights are getting abolished at sweeping rates(while I support this, I'm hearing of some folks interpreting these changes in the most horrible way and turning it into a bad thing). There's been a wide rift between our Government and the citizens of this country... the Federal feels like a country all its own. A country surrounded by America who's slowly hating it more and more every day.

Can I just offer MY personal, highly biased opinion of what MIGHT happen in the coming years?

-Obama is going to be re-elected.
>He won't pass anymore major bills but rather focus on trying fix the problems he both inherited AND created as President.

-The "Occupy" function going on right now will cease within 2 years.

It's making our working class of all grades feel lesser than they should as Americans. One thing about this is many of that majority have put themselves in that position. As well many of them ended up there under unfavorable circumstances. Either side you fall into, if you're unemployed, don't fret. There are ALWAYS jobs to get. No matter where you live. Just look up the local department of labor job listing and you'll see a plethora of jobs in every city you live in. I am under the impression that everyone in the Occupy movement is just too lazy to work. But as I was saying this will end some time within 2 years, making people happier to not seeing these lazy folk rallying about like headless chickens with no goals.

Don't overlook this fact. It's happened in many countries, just because America is(was) the crest of the world's development doesn't mean it can't happen here. America can go from top of the world order to civil war and sieges in a matter of weeks if people can't calm down. Don't put it past your fellow American.

As well each state will become its own entity. Not saying its own country, but all the states will be redefined as the true UNITED States of America. We'll be united but not under the same umbrella. We won't have defined blanket laws and regulations unless/until states form those bonds between each other.

Again this is just my thoughts of our imminent future based on current events and how things similar to this have transpired in the past. I do put a LOT of weight on the nature of humans when I considered these options. Because of the unpredictability of humans, no one will ever really be able to know where we are heading but I've concluded in my own mind that America is finding its end as we know it. A new America will be born soon, for better or for worse, I think it IS going to happen.
