I liked Cata at the start of the xpack cause there was so difficulty to it, the gear wasn't just handed out as easily. When I quit before 4.2 it was far too easy, we had heroic bosses on farm =/

Cata isn't what it was hyped to be to be honest. However, Mists of Pandaria looks a hell of a lot more interesting. Between the music, the dungeons, the talent revamp and new class new race etc. etc. looks very well put together. Right now I'm 6/7 in FL since I just got into my new guild. One time running in FL and we got to Rag easy as cake. We'll down Rag this Sunday or Monday and with really no effort needed.
When the new patch comes out however, I'm interested in seeing the new Deathwing Raid. Our guild will be hitting it head on as fast as possible to regain a server first. We were server first for LK 25 man and RS and Ony. So, we'll see what else happens. This transmog looks good but I don't think its going to bring many people "back" to playing the game. So far Cata has suffered alot of losing players interests.
I played on my friend's account for a Firelands farm run because he was busy.
Hadn't played the game since the middle of 4.1. Playing a new spec and new class (my friend's main is an arcane mage; I've never played mage before, hell I've never played ranged dps ever)
Also my first time in Firelands. Heroic Shannox is boring as ****, I figured out in about 5 seconds that you don't stand in the traps, kite the dogs, press arcane blast a lot. 1-shot.
Heroic Rhyolith was a joke too. Granted I was with a guild that has had these bosses on farm for a while now, but I never even went below half health on my first time on the boss. Just didn't feel like a challenge, we probably way overgear the first fights for me to get the proper feel of the fight. He died in like 4 minutes.
H Bethtilac was interesting because I had no idea what the hell was going on with the various adds (the only fight I really didn't understand in FL from watching a few videos), eventually they just said to stand in the middle and DPS the drones, which I did. Didn't die. The burn phase looked like a lot of fun to heal, wish I was on my pally for that phase. Around here I realized arcane mage is the single most boring class in WoW bar none.
H Alysrazor was hilarious, I didn't die and like half the "expereienced" raiders in the guild did, lots of people got tons of shit because the "noob mage" (me) was doing better than them. I got lucky at one point, totally forgot about the firestorm, thankfully blink + lifegrip is a seriously OP movement skill combo so I lived. Other than that, uneventful, I didn't get to fly because they wanted the expeienced people up there, no problem.
H Baleroc was a joke. Overgeared that fight like hell, apparently it's supposed to be a DPS check, we knocked it over with more than 45 seconds left. I beat the guild's other arcane mage, neither of us was soaking torments. I had lucky crits tho, 8% higher crit rate than him despite our crit chances being within 0.4% of each other, get owned
H majordomo was interesting. First time I died, was totally not ready for the reactions you need to have for getting out of the cat jump. Once I realized you had to move THE INSTANT he jumps I was fine (didn't look that tight timing on video!)
We killed it before the second orbs phase as expected. Kinda wish I got to raid this at the appropriate gear level because it did seem like an interesting instance but we were just knocking all the bosses over waaaaay too fast.
H Ragnaros was interesting. Originally they were going to sit me, but the guy who was supposed to replace me didn't show up, so I went into the hardest fight in the game as a first time arcane mage.
Was the first wipes we had in the instance. We wiped a bunch to dumb shit: bad AoE in phase 2, a fail knockback on a transition phase that knocked the Son INTO the hammer instead of away (retard boomkin lolll) terribad meteor kiting in p3, terribad meteor kiting in p4... the usual stuff. I think I was there for about 6-7 wipes.
I got to see up to 13% in phase 4, the my friend came back and he logged on to play his toon. Apparently they killed it 3-4 attempts after I left, which was cool. My friend got his trinket.
All in all, seemed like a fun instance. Getting carried is always fun, getting carried through content you've never played on a toon you've never played with a UI you've never used is... a little more interesting than usual WoW, honestly quite fun as well though. I offered to play my friend's toon anytime he was busy lol, free WoW \o/
I don't regret cancelling my subscription, because the game doesn't seem to have enough stuff besides raiding for my style, but it was fun to play again and see some of my old guildies.
One thing I realized is that I'm soooo glad I played a pally, mage is beyond boring. No idea how anyone can stay awake pressing all of two buttons for the rotation plus like 2-3 cooldowns. "mana management" is a joke.
New expansion looks quite "casual" friendly. I don't have a problem with that really, as it's Blizzard's game and they probably know their audience better than I do, but my impression so far is that it will not be my style. I likely won't be buying it or resubscribing, but you never know...
I'm willing to bet that they're trying to attract more girls to the game with MOP. I'm only interested in the pandas to (hopefully) be able to make a panda druid. I'm sick of night elves and I hate worgens, and I haven't run a druid yet. Maybe a panda druid will be a good run.
And hi19, it's funny that you say you've never run a ranged toon, because that's all I run and I haven't done a melee toon ever xD

I love healing. Finally getting my priest to 85 right now (literally, I'm a bit into 84 right now xD ) and like you said, it requires the most awareness.
My main is a hunter, and I like it only for PvP now. I hate it for PvE because of how gay it is. Plus, half of our server is hunters so I'm always in a raid group with at least 1 other hunter and they need on every damn thing and they do the stupid shit like pulling the boss (my god, had this happen a few nights ago when we were trying to get the achievement before Majordomo and I was pissed). But hunters in PvP, played right, they're awesome and fun. There's so much you can do.

Yeah but they're not making anything any of the people who've played Vanilla/BC typically want at all. They're turning their back on their loyal players. I hope Activision isn't pressing them like this. I love Blizzard but this is kinda smuging their name a bit for my eyes. At least they're devoted to release games that are actually done unlike BF3 that's sitting on my hardrive unplayable.

Games change. I don't feel any loyalty to WoW, sure I put a lot of time into it, but I did it knowing full well at some point I would get bored of the game and move on. You're silly if you expect WoW to remain interesting to you personally forever- you've probably changed just as much as the game has.
I don't feel any loyalty, but it's kinda sad when the game was so good, then it was forcibly changed. I could do BC content but it's nerfed and there arn't a whole lot of people willing to cap at level 70 to still provide a true BC experiance. It just kinda seems like Blizzard is listening more to their marketing department and doing a whole bunch of novelty garbage while making seemingly bogus expansion packs to hand gear out to people so they feel good about themselves. The only challange in WoW these days is dealing with people far more retarded than before. In the end I don't blame them since companies do what they do to make money, but it sucks that WoW seems like it's been degrading to a shitty cesspool since WotLK came out. Everybody I know who's seriously played Vanilla/BC has these feelings too. All I can do at this point is hope GW2 will be a good replacement for the hole in my heart T_T. I thought Cata was going to be even better than vanilla but IMO, it has suffered the Lich King's wrath in the end >:
